This short prequel (available for free on the author’s website) had so much potential but failed to meet expectations.
The first thing that I noticed is that the FMC had such a potty mouth. It was incredibly off-putting. I mean, come on, the girl used more language than the pirates who kidnapped her!
Secondly, the couple started out fighting with the girl thinking that she hated the guy. I would not have minded if they were fighting because they didn’t want to admit that they liked each other. However, the girl thought she genuinely hated him but all that changed in one conversation? I don’t think so.

This short story is definitely an interesting one. I actually would have loved to see a longer version of this where everything was developed a bit more. As it is, I think it does a good job of giving you all the information you need so you aren't confused. It is great if you want something you can easily read in one sitting when you may not have enough time to get through a longer novella.

The characters were lacking a little bit of context, but nothing am particularly upset about. We are dropped right into the story and kind of quickly get swept away into the world and everything going on. It feels complete enough, but there is still so much more that could happen with these characters. I am left wanting more from them and to know what happened after this one ended.
