DNF'ed at pg 37, skimmed much of the rest

I think the problem that happened here for me is I recently (re)watched several of my favorite Time Travel shows (Continuum, Travelers) and that sort of set the standard for my brain on what to expect in a time travel book.

Also so much of the book seems to rely on this or that easy writing formula. If you can't guess who dies in the end then you don't pay attention to tropes very often (which is good, it can be a hazard knowing tropes). There's also the fact the romance felt so out of place for me. This was a case of I wish the author had left it out completely since in the end it distracted. I would have understood if Briggs STARTED the romance, or at least the attraction, in this book and followed through with a more thorough look in the next book (which is set 6 months after and deals with the direct consequences and ramifications of their trip in this book), but instead it was here and it was obvious and I was just not into it.

So overall a miss for me and I won't likely be reading the second book (of which I have an ARC of) either.

5/10, a mature book, did not enjoy this one.

Admittedly, this one wasn't my favorite (that was probably the first book), but it was still very good and suspenseful. It focused more on the Zodiac packs and trying to get them to unite and fight the Sun Witches and the Leo pack. There was turmoil with Kaden and Ayla, but I thought it was still captivating and I was on the edge of my seat to see how they would work it out. Kaden was a much darker, tortured character in these than the first two books which was nice to see him and Ayla, not be static characters throughout the books. Obviously, what they were going through would change a person and it was good to see that written into the plot.… (mehr)

Wow, these books never cease to surprise me! More twists and turns and suspense! I find it hard to review books that end with a cliff hanger because I don't want to give away the story. A lot of things become clearer and Kaden and Ayla get even closer. As we start this second book, Kaden things Ayla left him because she couldn't resist the pull of her mate, but really she was forced to leave or they would kill most of their pack. Most of the story is spent with her under the Leo's pack with her fated mate, Jordan, looming around. It is dramatic to say the least and it with Ayla finding out who her mother is and Kaden presumed dead! Ah!… (mehr)
