Romeo's Ex: Rosaline's Story von Lisa Fiedler
I really liked this book, because it took Shakespeare and all of his charmingly impossible writing (which I have never been able to hack through) and gave it a nice twist. Unfortunately too many of the "oh no, they're not dead!" parts, but our dear heroine even recognizes this humorously at one point, so it is far improved.
A wonderful book in the tradition of so many with animal-centered characters. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. Highly recommended for middle grade readers and anyone who loves a good rodent adventure! ;)

Remains me of Redwall with the fighting warriors. Tales of Despereaux because it about a little mouse trying to be breve in a big world. Its kind of like The Rats of NIMH where its the only other book I have read where the rats and mice are not at odds with each other and both are quite intelligent.
The ‘chosen one’ trope is play around with. It not at the center of the story. Hopper is supposedly the ‘chosen one’ but, his sister wants to be the ‘chosen one’. Little bit of a twist.… (mehr)

In the 1960's, Victoria runs away from an abusive father and joins the VanDrexel Family Circus. After trying out a variety of jobs, she finds a talent for the tightrope and begins falling for one of the VanDrexel's sons. In the present day, Callie, Victoria's granddaughter, and her mother have left the circus to live and work at an exotic animal rescue facility. Callie, outraged that she is no longer walking the tightrope, is determined to rejoin the circus.
This book was a bit boring. There was a lot of teenage angst, which was a bit off-putting. The book featured short alternating chapters, which made it feel like neither the story or characters were very well developed. Overall, a bust.… (mehr)
