Irena Kobald is multi-lingual Austrian immigrant to Australia, who teaches aboriginal children in Australian outback communities. My Two Blankets is her debut picture book. My Two Blankets von Irena Kobald
A young girl moves to the US and has to adjust to her new life. Her life back in her home country is represented by a orange blanket that she finds comfort in as she doesn't like being in her new home. Slowly she makes a friend and begins to adjust to things, forming a new blue blanket. Still having her orange one while also the blue. To link both her life before and after.
This book is for primary age students. In this book about a refugee student, we have a young girl who feels out of place in her new world. Everything is unfamiliar and strange after she moved to the United States for the first time. However, after she makes a new friend at the park, she is introduced to so many beautiful new things that she adds to her blanket as a collection of her new things she was introduced to.
This book was a beautiful illustration of the struggles that a child new to an area or culture might encounter, and how isolation can turn to inclusion after meeting a new companion. This book may not have as much of a value in the classroom, but still a good read for any students that might be independently interested.… (mehr)

My two blankets is a book about starting new. This book could be used to show children that it's alright when things change in life because they could be changing in a good way. It also shows that by even having differences in a language you can still make new friends. With these new friends each of you can teach each other something new.
I really enjoyed this book. I think it does a really good job of giving the audience a point of view of how scary it is to move to a completely new place where you no very little amount the culture, and most of the people around you know very little about your culture.
