Eh, I didn't care for it. It has cute art work and a repeating number pattern, but it's really simple and there's a really limited story.

A simple and straightforward tale of penguins fleeing from a seal. The pages also rhyme so in storytime, I tried to get my kiddos to guess what might be happening. (That was met with middling success) We not only count forwards, we also count BACKWARDS....which is something that I do not see all that often.

The story has a cute little twist at the end as well. See if older readers can guess it before it comes upon them.

This book is for primary aged students (or earlier for read aloud students). This is a short story about 5 penguins that are enjoying their day in the snow until they spot a seal that starts to chase them. They escape into the ocean and back onto land, before they realize that the seal wanted to play tag too!
This is a book that has central themes around counting (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 penguins) and a simply story for very young children. This book could be used in kindergarten or even pre-K/earlier for adults to read to children and show the illustrations.

This was wonderfully done. Start with five ostriches and unlike other books where one expects a countdown, all these ostriches get to stay together. Which is a good thing since there is a lion on the prowl and they’re playing hide and seek. One of my favorite things is that at no point in time do the ostriches put their heads in the sand. The author knew that that is not what truly happens. Overall, this book works, and I see it being really really fun for story time.

This book was about five penguins and they were excited for the day until they saw a seal and thought it wanted to eat them. They jumped into the water and swam away. In the end it turned out that the seal just wanted to play tag.

Cute book! I liked the sound words on the page and the illustrations made the book come to life. I would definitely read this book to my future class.

This book counted 1-20, giving a sentence or two about each number. For example, the page for number three talked about how after three strikes you are out.

I truly enjoyed this book. It was a great way to get the students involved and to interact while reading. I able to bring m&m's in the classroom and followed the instructions in the read aloud from the book. This book not only went over counting but it also helped review colors, shapes, subtracting and adding. Overall, a great book for the classroom!

This book is a great way to get students into math and excited about it. However, I feel like the author should have made one book for adding and subtracting and another book for multiplying and dividing. I feel like it is too much going on in the book. I had to reread the second half of the book myself to completely understand the multiplication and division that was being shown. Overall, this book is really a cute read and a fun way to learn math. The illustrations are bright and lively and the author does a great job with rhyming the words. I would recommend this book for grades 4-6.½

This book was so cute. My kids loved that the bears look like gummy bears. They loved being able to name the different colors and counting the bears. We also did a gummy bear activity with them letting the students count to ten.

(Review lost in move from GR.  This review for a reread.)  This is one of my favorite versions of one of my favorite tales - and I don't even like Halloween and I have no interest in revenge.  The only thing that some versions of the story have, that this doesn't, is the excuses made by the friends/ roommates.  The ghost, bat, and gremlin here are just plain lazy and rude.  And now I want pumpkin pie, even though it's July....)

In this follow-up to TEDDY BEAR COUNTING and TEDDY BEAR MATH, kids will be jumping, wriggling, and spinning as they practice their math skills. In Simon Says-like fashion children are asked to moo like cows, fly like planes and pat their heads while they count, add, sort, and subtract. The hands-on interaction makes math exciting for young learners and teachers will find this book perfect for use with bear counters or other classroom manipulatives. Review from Fishpond

A story for all the baseball lovers out there to teach you how to count. Each page utilizes each number 0-20, so you can visually see each number and what it represents. I think this is really helpful for parents at home to help children gain a better understanding on numbers and counting. Kids learn better when they can visually see the number rather than just being told what it represents. The illustrations are very realistic, but the number for each page is bold and the focal point of the page so the child can stay on the right track of counting and learning.

This book is a book about math and learning how to count and do simple math problems. Using m&m's students sort, add, subtract, multiply and divide. This is a great way for students to learn math while having a motivation and a fun way to practice. This book is for grades second and above.

The would be a different version of the little red hen. The story was the same plot just different characters and thing they were planting. It could be something you read around Halloween because they cave pumpkins in the book. It could be read year around though.

This is a story about a little green witch and having to do all the work around the house. It teaches children that they have to help in order to receive the benefits of a task. It was cute, and a good life lesson. I think this book deserves four stars.

From a math perspective, I think this book it too "sing songy" for children learning how to count. The book counts from numbers 1 to 20 using different aspects of baseball. Maybe nice to read before going to a game.

This book is a success of The Little Red Hen. The little green witch finds some pumpkin seeds. She decides to plant and water them but her friends wouldn't help her. She also carves and masks the pumpkins with no help also. The witch made the pie and her three friends came running when it was done. The witch insisted since she did all the work, she would be eating the pie alone and turned her friends into three hens. I could implement this book in the class around Halloween to help them better understand to always help a friend in need.

This was a simple counting book that would be a fun for K-2nd. I liked the simple rhymes for the counting. It was also nice how they introduced base ten and counted by tens for children. This can sometimes be a hard concept to initially grasp for some young kids. This could be used by teachers as a lead for using manipulative like Cheerios to help counting by any sort of combinations and then as a treat getting to eat their math project.

This book flows very easily and it is fun to read, I can only imagine actually reading it with a classroom full of children. I feel as if they would enjoy this very much as they will get a treat at the end. While going through they are practicing their math skills but they probably would not realize this much because it is so interactive and seems like a game since the words rhyme.

Summary: Passed out 12 m&m's to each kid. Adds up one by one of the candy till you reach 12. Then asked to make different shapes with them, they ask to put the candy in different sets: like 2 sets of 6, 3 sets of 4. When you're ready for the subtract part you start eating them.

Personal Reactions: Love this book. I remember reading this book as a kid in school. Since it's to due with candy you know that the kids will be more into it. I also like on almost every page it gives compliments to the kids when they do it right.

Classroom Extension: Bring in the book with the candy for the kids to read out loud with me and count all together. By having the candy and giving the candy away, you will know that you have their attention. This book taught me and I would love to teach kids with it.

Summary: This book uses the M&Ms candy to teach children simple math like counting to 12 giving them visual aids (the candy) of each number.

Personal Reaction: I feel this is a great way to introduce children to math because lets face it what kid doesn't love candy

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. You could use different kinds of candy to help the children count their own keeping them interested with the promise of being able to eat it
2. You could give them and M&M inspired math worksheet
