1824 Charting the Future: The Supreme Court Responds to a Changing Society, 1890-1920, by John E. Semonche (read 1 Feb 1984) This is a chronological story of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1890 to 1920. I really enjoyed reading the book, even though the scheme of the book is simplistic--it just tells what the Court did year by year. Surprising how I remembered the cases I had in law school when they came up in this account. In general, the author's theory is that the Court wasn't as benighted during those years as it is sometimes pictured to have been. Interesting if not memorable reading.… (mehr)
