The plot progression was relatively slow and there seemed to be no depth to the plot. I did really enjoy the characters and the strong emotions that were portrayed (my heart cried so many times. I believe that if more editing was done that this could be an amazing book. The last 10% of the book were amazing and if the rest of the book had been this way, I would have definitely given the book a 5 star rating. The development of the plot needs to be improved. There were hints given in the writing to future occurrences that were obvious and gave away a lot of the book. The author tried to use suspense and ambiguity to heighten the anticipation, but it just fell a little short. I have read the second book in this series and it was AMAZING. With tears and a tight hug, Rylee Everley's dad left for Afghanistan with the Army Reserve. Since his deployment, her mom has been distant, her sisters are constantly fighting, and Rylee, at only thirteen years old, has to be the glue to keep them together. While her mother stays locked in her room, Rylee has been forced into the role of parent.Now, two years later, a freak accident involving a bus at school promises to restore some normality to her family. In spite of not knowing how their father is, her mother is happy and her sisters don't seem to fight as much as they used to. Rylee herself is seeing more of her friends and is even trying to sort out her own feelings about Brock Parker. This story was sad, having a father going away to war is difficult for anyone I would imagine, with the not knowing whether they will come home or not. The added suspense with Adysin and not knowing what she might do made it pretty exciting. I was waiting for Rylee to find out about Adysin and whether her father came home. It was also funny in parts was written well and a fantastic read. So much so that I am purchasing book 2 as soon as possible.
