At the advice of her therapist, homicide survivor Harper Reynolds has traded her job as a crime scene photographer for a more peaceful life taking photographs of the natural world. But her hopes for a life surrounded by the serenity of the outdoors are dashed when she inadvertently captures a murder being committed in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She flees the scene in fear--and loses the camera. Former Green Beret Heath McKade is a reserve deputy in an understaffed county who has been called in to protect Harper, a childhood friend he is surprised to see back in the area. When Harper learns that the sheriff's department can't find any evidence of the murder she witnessed, she is determined to do what she can to see that justice is done. What neither Harper nor Heath could know is how many explosive secrets from the past will be exposed--or how deeply they will fall for each other. In this suspenseful page-turner, bestselling author Elizabeth Goddard keeps you on the edge of your seat as you discover that uncommon justice lies just on the other side of fear.… (mehr)

Mini Review of Always Look Twice by Elizabeth Goddard:
After quickly reading the first book in the series the night before I started reading this one I was excited to find out more about the brothers and their relationship, with spot one suspense that was somewhat bothersome for me, and hard to stomach, I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first just because of the cruelty of certain characters that I pegged as the bad guy, then thought I was mistaken, and so on several times yet I was surprised by the bad guy and the ending. Where is the next book!?! ( )

Always Look Twice is the second book in the Uncommon Justice series, but read as a standalone. This Christian romantic suspense turns out to be more suspense than romance. I did enjoy the suspense as it kept me turning pages, the only downside I had with this particular book was the repetitiveness. It did get a bit slow in some spots but not enough to stop you from wanting to find out what happens next.

I would like to thank Revell for the ARC of Always Look Twice in exchange for my honest review. ( )

Harper Reynolds, crime scene photographer, finds herself in the middle of something she's been trying to avoid for a year now. Harper and her novelist sister Emily have been on the road, shooting pictures of nature in the National parks they’ve been camping in.

Harper sets up her camera on a tripod and zooms in.” Taking in those big brown eyes, she captured the images of a grizzly bear foraging for berries near the Grayback River…”

Something catches her eye. It’s a woman frantically running, she saw terror in her eyes. She keeps taking pictures and zooms in for a closer look. A man has a gun aimed at the women and shoots. Harper realizes that this man could spot her with the high-powered rifle and scope. Harper screams and runs for cover leaving her equipment behind. She accidently runs into Heath McKade who just so happens to be the owner of Emerald M. Guest Ranch, a former Green Beret and assists the sheriff when needed. She welcomes his help and tells him what’s happened. As she relays what’s happened, Harper and Heath take a closer look at each other, they smile and realize they know each other. What a great surprise they were close childhood friends until Harper’s family moved away.

Heath McKade stays true to Harper when they are unable to locate a body, her camera, tripod and cellphone. Was Harper having a PTSD relapse? She knows what she saw. She’d find the evidence needed to verify her case; Heath helps her. They both get way more than they bargained for in this search.

I didn’t read book one in this series. I felt caught up with things. I liked learning about what a crime photographer does and how they gather evidence. I liked the mystery, and plot twists, in this action-packed romantic suspense story. This is the first novel I’ve read by this author it won’t be the last.

I had a hard time getting into this one. It moved along slowly and seemed a bit too wordy for my liking. I did like the plot line of the story, just not the delivery. ( )
