A great book to read the day before valentines to students. ( ) I really enjoyed this book for a few reasons. The language was patterned, written in poem form. The writing flows with each sentence and the topic. The charactars were believable and well developed as they spoke about Valentine’s Day. The plot was very organized as well as the illustrations, showing the Valentine's day candy, crafts, and friends. The illustrations spoke for the poem as well, showing very interesting pictures regarding the crafts. I enjoyed this book because I felt as if it explained the key points in Valentine’s Day using love, friendship and crafts. The big message was to show children how important it is to show love and how many different ways it can be used, especially on Valentine's Day. Also, the story explained to children how Valentine's Day can be for your friends as well, not just a family member or other. 1. Summary: Valentine's day is right around the corner as the young children prepare their Valentin's cards and dream of candy hearts. The day finally comes! The young students participate in a school Valentine's day party;exchanging cards and eating the yummy snacks. They end up with a cuddly surprise at the end of their Valentine's party. 2. Personal Reaction: I love Valentine's day, and this book brings back many memories and feelings that I had when I was in elementary school. The anticipation of waiting to open cards, the Valentine's day snacks, and the extravagent hearts decorated around the classroom. 3. Classroom Extension Ideas: A. I would have the kids make a special card in the classroom to give to either a sibling, parent, or teacher. B. I would also allow the students to pass out Valentine's cards to other students, which will allow them to learn about sharing and loving one another.
