Un inizio intrigante che farebbe presagire una buona storia ma la realizzazione purtroppo si rivela molto scialba e a tratti anche noiosa. Peccato!
Formerly chubby heroine who is ridiculously insecure. I prefer actual chubby heroines but at least she didn't "become beautiful" after losing weight or something. I really like the angst, even if it was overall rather cheesy. Not a big fan of the hero being mean to the heroine after she was pretty intensely sexually harassed, if not assaulted. Kind of a dick move there, dude.
I like Kim Lawrence's writing style for the most part. This one had too many flashbacks that disrupted the story for me. There wasn't really any secret baby here. The title is a bit misleading. The hero was stubbornly and willfully blind about his feelings. The heroine had a TSTL moment at the end which was totally and blatantly just a way to but the characters where the author wanted them for drama. It was totally out of character and something that no sane woman would have done.

Liam Rafferty and Jo Smith have been best buddies since childhood, but everything changes when their one night together results in a pregnancy. Liam insists on marriage, but Jo is determined to go it alone rather than marry a man who doesn't love her. Or does he?
The marriage of convenience plot is actually more suited to historical rather than contemporary novels, but it works here somehow. Unfortunately, the romance suffers from the lack of communication that often characterizes category romances and both the hero and heroine are stubborn in the extreme.
Moreover, the writing doesn't always flow with some awkward transitions between past and present events, as well as head hopping between POVs, which makes it difficult to follow whose thoughts and words are being presented.
Nevertheless, the story is enjoyable overall mainly due to Jo and Liam's intense chemistry and obvious feelings for each other. Their sex scenes are also steamier than expected for a late 90s Harlequin.
All in all, a faced paced and satisfying read.… (mehr)
