A short account of the Lower Austria campaigns of Matthias Corvinus won by default. Maximilian was occupied in holding on to his Burgundian inheritance, cash-strapped Emperor Friedrich III could offer but little resistance and had to rely on the Turks to distract Matthias. Luck saved the Habsburgs again: Matthias Corvinus died unexpectedly in Vienna in his fifth year of occupation. Leaderless Hungary crumbled until it succumbed to the Turks at the fateful battle of Mohacs.
