I was skeptical about this book because of its title. Thankfully, it's not really about cheating the buyer of your small business. Rather, the author offers some basic but generally-sound advice, including advice that a business-owner ought to consider well in advice of a prospective sale. (For example, you should report all your business' income; trying to cheat the taxman out of a few bucks may be penny-wise but pound-foolish.)

That said, there's not much to this small book, it's not terribly well-written, and there are no secrets hiding here. A few minutes on Google could probably turn up equally-good advice.… (mehr)

While short, I found Chapter 6 "Are You Selling a Business or a Job?" the most interesting. I do not intend on selling my business soon, but it is in part from this chapter that I realized how to improve my current business. Overall a decent read.

Sell Your Business for More Than It’s Worth by Michelle Seiler-Tucker – review
Written by an expert in buying, selling, and improving business. Ms. Seiler-Tucker’s book outlines many details to address to increase the selling price of a business. In “Sell Your Business for More Than It’s Worth” Ms. Seiler-Tucker addresses a plethora of considerations to bring a premium selling price. While a few sections could use more exposition, overall she is very generous with sharing her expertise.
Although the author wrote the book for the owner contemplating the sale of a business, the book will also be illuminating for business people embarking on a start-up and those with no immediate plans of selling their business. The process of prepping a business for sale, advertising, and closing the sale is rather complicated, Ms. Seiler-Tucker explains in plain English. By the end of the book business owners who are planning to sell will have a good idea of what to expect, whether to attempt a sell-by-owner, or if they should hire a professional business broker.

Good checklist for someone planning to sell a business. It will remove some of the ambiguity and unease surrounding one of the most important decisions in a business owner's life. However, be warned that the book is clearly unedited and the redundancy can be distracting for those of us who read a great deal of edited nonfiction business books.
