Hello - I'm so happy that this group was recommended to me! I'm new to Canada, though my mother was from Cape Breton Island. I'm a book-a-holic and have been trying to learn about/read as many Canadian authors as possible. This is great - I'll be posting my plans soon - and most likely also be asking for help with my choices.

Welcome! Check out the individual province threads for some ideas and let us know about any new ones you find. We are always on the hunt for new titles :)

Thanks for the welcome, bucketyell and Bcteagirl! I really appreciate it. I'm still searching all these postings and looking at the Governor General's Awards and Canada Reads choices. I also made up a Canadian map a la Auntmaggie64 (hope I got that right - I don't want to leave this post to check my spelling!).

My map is pretty pathetic - I've only been to NB. , NS, PE, QC, ON (where I live now - for a bit over 2 years), and AB.
Anyway, I'm going to post one nonfiction and one fiction book from each province --- assuming that I decide on each of those right now. I may be filling in later. So...
AB: fiction: The Outlander by Gil Adamson nonfiction:
BC: fiction: nonfiction:
LB: fiction: nonfiction:
MB: fiction: nonfiction:
NB: fiction: nonfiction:
NL: fiction: nonfiction:
NS: fiction: nonfiction:
NT: fiction: The Bishop's Man by Linden MacIntyre nonfiction:
NU: fiction: nonfiction:
ON: fiction: Fruit by Brian Francis nonfiction:
PE: fiction - Anne of Green Gables (my mother's favourite book, I've never read it) by Lucy Maud Montgomery; nonfiction -
QC: fiction: The Fat Woman Next Door Is Pregnant Michel Tremblay nonfiction:
SK: fiction: nonfiction:
YT: fiction: nonfiction:

Anyway, more later!

Welcome Utopian!I think you'll find plenty of suggestions for books to read in this section. I've yet to read a book on the Yukon - but I have Gold Diggers in my TBR pile! :) If you want suggestions, just ask! As for your map - bravo! How to put that one my thread - I'll never know. Great to meet you!

Welcome! I like the way you have listed fiction and non-fiction for each province. I started off with the goal of both genres but it went awry somewhere along the line. I found that creating a collection for the challenge was helpful though. I've included read, tbr and wishlisted titles.

I've made some changes - read many of the suggestions from this group and thought of some others that are in storage but unread. So...still TBD
Let me know if I've made mistakes about which book is in which Province! My OCD is making me complete my list before I begin the reads, and I hope to have that finished very soon.
Thanks for the comments and encouragement.

Looks good to me! Some suggestions for SK and YT if you are interested:
Sask: Fiction: As for me and my House, A Student of Weather
Nonfiction: Mamie's Children: Three generations of Prairie Women

Yukon: Fiction: Journey
Non-Fiction: Drifting Home I married the Klondike

Just some ideas, as I know books for some sections can be hard to find. I have tags for all the provinces if you want more ideas (Am working on labelling the Nonfiction books as such as I go).

UtopianP - you have some great ideas lined up. I especially like your combo for Manitoba. I own the Hutterite book but haven't read it yet.

As for your map - bravo! How to put that one my thread - I'll never know. Great to meet you!

Deb - it's easy. Just click on the link below the map that says "create your own personalized . . ." then follow the directions.
