Lovely!

The dread thread police will not have reason to visit our fair pub.

And I will add a picture of our latest Pool Boy. (Just saw Thor over the weekend.)

Oh, and in case you thought he looked familiar, he played James Tiberius Kirk's father George in the latest Star Trek movie.

Did these girls get into the PGGBs early? Such typing, I've not seen the like, in years. I'm telling you

I think GD was going to show the pool boy him "around the pub a bit"

He's one of his pretty face. I think can be translated into "Here's one...of his pretty face."

OK, editing session closed.

/me wanders off to find her own glass of PGGBs.

Proving that one should always read *all* of the previous messages in the thread, I initially was going to post this:

In the midst of dazzling pool boy images, did clam forget to use Roman numerals? I know Thor is adorably cute, but I'd no idea of the level of brain fritz such images could induce...

But now I see (via #5 above) that we're all on the same plane here after all.

Oh, and welcome all!

There was a crowd of us at my house watching it on bluray and when the shirtless scene came on my brother looked at me and said, "Why are you looking like that? All of a sudden you have this really goofy look on your face." Heh heh...

Heh, nice to wake up to on my birthday morning. And yes, I have been in the bottle early today. My daughter bought me a bottle of Hendrick's Gin, oh so special! She also made my birthday breakfast drink, OJ with some Southern Comfort, real maple syrup and a piece of bacon! YUM.

For all the future Pubbers: May your days here be as lovely as mine have been. :)

Speaking of SPITTING COBRAS, has any seen the Smurfs lately? They seem to be in hiding.

Rather than search for Smurfs, I think I'll pretend the pool boys are missing and search for them!

In my sweetest, southern drawl- Oh, pool boys? I think I may need help when I get to the pool!

Welcome to the craziness!

#34 suitable1 -- Is it possible to have a sour southern drawl?

Actually, we Southerners usually refer to them as "bitchy" rather than "sour." And sometimes, if you aren't from the area, you might not be able to tell "sweet" from "bitchy," because our drawls are just that good!

Just as a matter of interest, "4" was written as "IIII" by the Romans prior to the introduction of the "IV" approach of subtraction. In your sleep deprived state you were actually reverting to the older tradition, not making an error.

Thanks, pgmcc! I had a wrist watch when I was eight years old with the IIII on it. I never knew if it was intentional or not. I thought perhaps the manufacturers knew people looking at the watch in a rush would find it easier to tell what IIII was meant to represent.

Welcome, everyone! I hope you enjoy your time in the Green Dragon as much as I have. I've been doing more lurking than posting lately.

Watch out for things like SPITTING COBRAS, Roombas that have minds of their own, and blue-footed boobies. Also, if MerryMary or Maggs ask you for marshmallows, run. If you see Morphy around with a screw driver or wrench, run even faster. Don't mind the Smurfs, they usually only come out when we've had a few too many PGGBs.

I'm heading back out to the pool to gawk drool stalk admire the pool boys as they go about saving people and cleaning up the pool area. :)

Hi Im Matt. Im 31, in the military and i have been a huge fantasy and scifi fan for years. I enjoy many differant series and always looking to expand. I ve started off this year with quite a few new choices along with some favorite authors.

Micro by Michael Crighton. One of my fav authors. I havnt picked up one of his for some time but loved this one.

The Man in the Box. It was free, so sue me.

The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett. I loved the concept and hope for a continuation.

Star Wars Scoundrels by Timothy Zahn. I love all of his Star Wars novels and this one was up with the rest even with it's Ocean 11 plus Star Wars mix.

Storm Front by Jim Butcher. First try of this series, was ok. I will try a few more see if I can get into it.

I have several more just waiting to be read and cannot wait.

Pan-Galactic Gargle Blasters...the effects of which have been described as having your brains smashed out by a lemon wrapped around a large gold brick. :) Supposedly invented by Zaphod Beeblebrox, but I'll bet they've always existed in one form or another...

Ah, the legendary Welcome Thread. The Thread of Welcome -- does sound like a fantasy title, doesn't it? The pool boys do look nice, although, being allergic to the chlorine in most pools (or the bromine, or whatever the 'oly 'eck makes me itch) I like cabana boy because it is alliterative :) Also, sarongs.

My fantasies are very specific :)

ANYwhoo, I'm settling down around here fairly well, causing trouble where I may, and still tagging, tagging, tagging, tagging....

144clamairy

Repeating my tidbits of information from an earlier thread:

Pillows behind the bar.
Pan-Galactic Gargle Blasters available upon request.
Pool and pool boys out back.
Roombas, Floombas, Smurfs, and SPITTING COBRAS approached at your own risk.
Marshmallow guns available from maggie1944
Johnny Depp clones have been sighted lately. Appear to be harmless. And gorgeous.

To add:

Roombas have in the past been "modified" by a member who shall remain nameless (but whose name rhymes with Morphy). They are capable of climbing. Sentience is suspected.
The top of the bar is usually pretty safe. (Except in the case of the Modified Roombas)
We don't know what Roombas eat. But the Smurfs are terrified.
I take a personal interest in the blue-footed boobies, and deeply resent any bullying on their behalf.

Welcome to the Green Dragon.

146Murphy-Jacobs
Apr. 2, 2013, 9:25 pm

I've never bullied a blue-footed boobie in my life and would not consider doing so now. I do share a house with a flesh-eating parakeet, though. She particularly likes chicken and human, although she will take a nip of cat when available. As for Roombas, as I have long shared a home with one, I feel certain I shall get along with them famously :)

Apr. 3, 2013, 4:16 am

I have wanted a roomba ever since somebody made a cute gif of kittens riding one. I'm pragmatic in my spending habits like that. I'll have to try adopting one, although the top of the bar sounds like a good place to live anyway.

149Murphy-Jacobs
Apr. 3, 2013, 5:19 pm

I hope you will make time to do some exploring. LT is huge and there are nooks and crannies which hold fascinating people chatting about this and that. I personally like the 75 Book Challenge group and I've picked out a few people to "follow". Occasionally, I indulge in following a thread or two in Pro and Con but I can only read so much of that before I retreat to threads which chat about books. I also signed up to receive Early Reviewer books which sometimes is a delight, and sometimes I get stinkers. As you see, there are many rooms in this place. Enjoy them, or not, it is your choice.

171strung_out
Jul. 30, 2013, 6:41 am

Thanks - I'm looking at maybe joining the 50 Book Challenge group, as I got off to a slow start this year, but should be able to manage 50 books.

The 75 book group looks extremely busy and noisy too! I think I'd rather start off in a slightly slower moving group, so I can keep up with everything a bit more easily.

172maggie1944
Jul. 30, 2013, 7:22 am

The nice thing about the book challenge groups is that over time you'll find those readers who match your interests and speed. No need to read what you don't want to read, nor read faster than is comfortable. It is all about enjoying your reading and your books. Poke around a read a variety of threads and you'll gravitate to those who interest you. I love the 75 book challenge group and the speedy ones therein; however, I have read less than 20 books this year so I'll not be hitting the 75 goal. Nope, not me. Does not mean I can't be a part of that group.

I'm clearly doomed then! There is no hope (as this morning's saunter past the charity shop clearly proved as I left with 5 extra books, at least three of which I can directly blame on having seen them mentioned on this site and the other two to having noticed that I hadn't read them indirectly because of this site and that was before I passed the library to return one audio book and and because one of the really helpful librarians was in, we had a chat and I put in a reservation for another one that's been out of stock for the last few months) I shall run wailing into the distance at this point - unless anyone knows where I can find a few extra hours in the day?

> #219 LT people en masse appear to be on an enabling spree - every single group I've been following has prompted either books listed on my wishlist here or at amazon/book depository or acquisitions on trips out!

> #218 I've made a thread over on the group 'Books off the Shelf Challenge' showing what I've been reading, but wasn't sure that I should make a duplicate here and I'm not terribly good at remembering where I heard about each book - although so far most of the books I've heard about and acquired have made it on to the TBR pile rather than as far as actually being read.

I'm feeling a little pleased with myself as, having made it through 40 books in the whole of last year, so far this year I've made it through 22! However my other 'creative' projects do appear to be suffering somewhat . . . My niece's birthday present might be knitted in time for Christmas at this rate instead of May (unless I can figure out a way to read actual physical books and knit at the same time!) and let's not mention the cross-stitch pattern. My original intention for the year was to read 26 (I think it's a marathon's worth - in the sense of 1 per mile) out of a list of 70 books on my TBR pile and 9 audiobooks. I'm already well past the 9 audios (I think I'm on about 14) and I've read 10 of the original list of 70 so far (by combining with the audio versions). The list of 70 while still being my 'to read in 2014' is accompanied by a much larger 'to be read' list which is I think currently over 320 (but includes those still on the 2014 list).

ohhh cool. I'm a huge fan of Star Trek. But, it's just got so............ Ya know. But I do like the older ones and some of the newer ones. :)
