what's ur favorite Hemingway story?

I have several candidates, but I have to whittle it down to one and that is:

(drumroll)

THE OLD MAN AND THE SEA

(so it's a novel/nouvella? it's a story, too).

several candidates also, but one I like the most is "God Rest You Merry, Gentlemen".

ok. ok. just purusing the short stories, my favorite so far is "Big Good Hearted River Part I." the images of death and devastation and the trout lining up in soldierly formations are precious.

I just happened upon your group, and am very glad to have found it. I hope you all don't mind me hopping on. I must say, "Big Two-Hearted River" is my favorite short story of all time. I don't know how many times I have read it. And each time, it seems, I find something new in it.

Big Two-Hearted River. A close second is A Clean, Well Lighted Place.

Oh boy, you've had me reading and re-reading the stories and still I cannot decide. I was even considering picking out one of the vignettes to make it easier to decide. Conclusion: It's impossible to pick just one.

"Big Two-Hearted River" is up there on the list for its overall neatness and accuracy. Then there is "The End of Something." And "Cat in the Rain," which I cannot leave unmentioned. OK, alright, now I stop.
