Record your wrist-slapping, TBR-growing events here.

I could not ... you know how it is, could NOT resist buying the whole set of Marcel Proust's In Search of Lost Time when I found the boxed set on sale. I really did only intend to buy Swann's Way to see if it would take, but now the whole thing is here and I'm committed. Six books* on the TBR pile instead of one, but maybe I can still just call it one for the sake of accounting. I can do that, right?

Edit: *ergh, seven books, the fifth and sixth having been published in one volume.

You can absolutely just call it 1 for accounting purposes. In fact, just consider any unread books on the same shelf to count towards the one. A shelf is a perfectly reasonable unit. I, myself, have only 1 on my TBR, if, by 1, you allow for '1 houseful'.

A stack also counts as 1. So that 3' high stack of books on my floor is 1. Actually, all the stacks happen to be on the same floor, so the whole lot of them equal 1.

This is good theory. I can work with this. I just need to translate it into terms my wife will understand.

I have 1 shelf. It's amazing how much you can fit on one shelf if you triple-stack.

I went to a library book sale yesterday and left with only one book, which surely counts for something, right?

I try to keep my unread percentage to about 50-60% of my library. For many years it was 0% and that is just not something I would ever want again.

>6 AngelaB86:, I congratulate you. Library sales may prove the death of me by avalanche.

>7 macsbrains:, true, finding myself at 0% I would surely despair. But a quick calculation demonstrating my unread books represent several years worth of effort to circumvent, I'm determined to take remedial action. If only I can avoid adding too many more incidents to this topic.

>5 PhaedraB: But that's a load of books you have to find a spot for when the little triangle brace thingies break and the shelf drops down (not far, because the shelf below is also crammed). I know this from recent experience.
