I’m pretty sure this was a library book I read at one time. I read a chapter everyday because they were short and read kinda like a devotional. The author which I’m pretty sure was a male’s viewpoint, would tell a short story about his dog and then at the end of the chapter he would relate the lesson to people and how we should learn from them or be more like them. I’ve found a small book that I thought would be it but it was different dogs in each story where the book I read was one man and his dog.

Sounds like this could be a motivational self-help book? Stay: Lessons My Dogs Taught Me and Until Tuesday: A Wounded Warrior and the Golden Retriever Who Saved Him come to mind as possiblities.
How long ago would you have read this?

I read the book sometime between 4 & 6 years ago maybe. Maybe it wasn’t quite that long ago. Neither of those titles sound familiar. But I will see if I can find them and check them out.

I probably read it 5 or so years ago, but being that it was a library book that probably doesn’t matter a whole lot because they have books of all ages.

My daughter and I read it together and we were thinking that the guys wife died in the book but I’ve also read The art of racing in the rain where the wife dies so I could be confusing the two.

Probably not Lessons from Tara or Merle's Door.
If you're still in the same library system, it might be worth asking at reader's advisory if they have any ideas. They'll be familiar with their library's collection and can at least point you to some shelves to search.
