A book my father owned and we would both like to see again. The cover frightened me as a child - it was the terror on the horse's face. Likely to be 1940s, possibly 50s. Cowboy / Western pulp fiction. Probably tens of thousands of titles and 15 years searching dealers and on the internet has not identified it yet. A cover featuring a rider being chased, by outlaws / posse / native Americans is something of a trope, but wolves less common though I have found other examples.

Are you certain that it was a western? It sounds like it has more of a Russian flavor.

I asked my daughter about this since she reads a lot of westerns.
She said that Max Brand had wolves in several of his books. However, the only one she could remember that featured a wolf chase involved a sled.
She has only read a few of his books, but said that he had wolves in his books more often than other western writers that she has read.

>2 SilverWolf28: Thank you, Silverwolf. Certainly when it comes to art / paintings there is a Russian tradition. I am certainly open to the idea that is more of a frontier / adventure type story rather than a western.

>3 Timelapse: Thanks, Timelapse (appropriate given my time lapse before returning to this site). I will search for Brand novels.
