This one may be hard, I've been searching off and on for years. I remember loving a book that I'd get from my school library at my elementary school in Illinois in the mid-90s. I'm assuming it must be pretty obscure. All I remember now is that it was about a mom and her many children. Some sort of enchantress transforms her children into every day objects. The only way the children can be transformed back tot their normal selves is if the mom can correctly guess which of her children has been turned into which object. She's able to correctly do so by knowing her children so well that she's able to make the ties between her children's personalities/attributes and the objects they've been turned into. That's all I've got!

It sounds like Heckedy Peg, by Audrey Wood, 1987. There are 7 children named for the days of the week. If you remember the glowing, golden illustrations by Don Wood, then we have a match.

Ahhhhhh that's it! I'm tearing up, I haven't seen that book in over 20 years! Thank you so much!

Glad I could help. It's kind of a dark tale, but it has big impact. I've enjoyed reading it aloud to older children many times.
