Hi, sharing my reviews to facebook hasn't worked for me in a while without me constantly clearing my cookies and cache (it usually works once, then not again. It just "spins"). I usually just post to f/b from goodreads now because of this.
The past few days, though, neither facebook (I do periodically try to see if it works again) nor twitter is working. But it's a different issue. The popup isn't even coming up at all for me to try to share.
Is it just me (again) or is this happening with anyone else? I have not tried clearing cookies and cache at this point. Thanks.

LOL! I posted this at 8:05 my time. It is now 8:51 and the Twitter popup just appeared!

>2 norabelle414: Ohhh, I wonder?

It did work (for Twitter), though it took 45 minutes for the popup to appear! And even though I had facebook checked, as well, there was nothing there to even try to share. Though it's possible (I tried a few times, I think), that one of the times I tried, I only selected Twitter.

Thanks for the report, I hope we'll have time soon to look at this! Will post updates as we get them.

Just as a note on this, Twitter is messing with its APIs for third party access, and is not being transparent about it:
https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2023/01/reports-twitters-third-party-client-...
So if problems continue when dealing with Twitter, it might be worthwhile to wait until somebody does something about Elon Musk's decision-making process. :-)

Does not work for me either, not on Firefox, not on Chrome, not on Edge.
The pop-up does not even show.

I tried again yesterday and it took a while (I didn't look at my clock to see how long), but the pop-up did appear, eventually. My guess is somewhere under a half hour. And I was able to post to facebook this time around, too!
12froxgirl
I still can't post reviews to FB or Twitter. Is anyone from tech support even looking into this issue, now a week old? Thank you.
13LibraryCin
Did it again. It took a while for the pop up to appear. I didn't look at how long it took, but I noticed that the popup appeared just as I clicked over to a different LT page. Not sure if that was the case the first couple of times or not.
As a side note, facebook is back to doing what it was. I can't post there; it just kept "spinning". I suspect if I cleared cache and cookies, it would post again (likely only once until I clear cache and cookies again).

Last week was a bit nuts with bugs/issues to investigate, but this is still on my docket. If not this week then I'm slating a block of time next week to dig into this, thanks for your patience!

>15 froxgirl: In the meantime, you can share the direct link to any review, such as https://www.librarything.com/work/2249/reviews/233752127, in your posts on social. Just find/click the link icon next to your review, then copy the URL in your browser bar and paste it into your post/s. Hope this helps!

I've done a few more now and - at least for me - I'm finding the popup appears every time I load a different LT page.

Pretty wild...I posted a review from the book page, checked the "share to twitter" box, clicked "save review", nothing happened, gave up, closed the browser.
An hour later I open the browser, do some other things, go to LibraryThing, and the pop-up shows up to post my review to Twitter.

I bet this is similar to me clicking to a different page on LT. You didn't click to a different page for the popup to appear. You left the site, so when you came back, there it was!

Okay, finally getting to test this. I'm adding testing details as I go, so I'll be editing this post:
On Chrome (logged into FB for some time):
Finally got my account linked with ccatalfo's help.
Test 1:
1. go to https://www.librarything.com/catalog/kristilabrie
2. edit/write a review for one of my books, check the "Facebook" box to share to FB. click "Save review".
3. "Share?" lightbox is opened. Click "Post to Facebook". NB: see this error in the dev console: "GET https://www.librarything.com/js2/yourfeed.js?4901 net::ERR_ABORTED 404" at https://www.librarything.com/ajax_lastBlast.php
Bug: Facebook lightbox opens, and just continues loading content. Doesn't finish loading. NB: see this error in dev console: "Refused to display 'https://www.facebook.com/' in a frame because it set 'X-Frame-Options' to 'deny'." at chrome-error://chromewebdata/
Test 2:
1. add a test book from /addbooks
2. click to edit the book from the book-edit page: https://www.librarything.com/work/edit/234182756?referpage=addbooks.php
3. add a review, check the "Share on Facebook" box, click the top "Save" button.
4. Return to https://www.librarything.com/addbooks&savedbook=1 with the "Share?" lightbox opened. NB: error in dev console, "GET https://www.librarything.com/js2/yourfeed.js?4901 net::ERR_ABORTED 404" at https://www.librarything.com/ajax_lastBlast.php
5. Click "Post to Facebook"

On Firefox (just logged into FB):
Seeing about the same issues and console errors as Chrome above.
On Safari (not logged into FB):
1. logged in as tester_captcha account
2. go to https://www.librarything.com/settings/sites
3. click "Link Facebook Account"
4. go to "Log into Facebook" page on FB and log into my FB account.
5. bump back to https://www.librarything.com/editprofile/sites#_=_ with my FB account linked to LT.
6. go to https://www.librarything.com/work/edit/234180379?referpage=addbooks.php, write a review, check the "Share on Facebook" box, click the top "Save" button.
7. Get the "Share?" lightbox. Click "Post to Facebook".
8. Get the Facebook lightbox for a few seconds, and then just a gray bar in its place. I cannot continue with posting my review to Facebook. (see screenshot below)

Still doesn't work. I don't even get the popup.
22LibraryCin
I noticed yesterday that it's not just me clicking over to another LT page for the popup to appear. I think I need to click to my "Your books" page (which is usually where I go when I finish writing a review). I clicked on the Home page first yesterday and the popup didn't appear, but when I clicked to my Your Books page, it appeared then.
23Robertgreaves
Yes, I get the same thing, no FB popup till I go to Your Books but then all that posts to FB is a general link to LT rather than a link to my review
24kristilabrie
I'm assigning this to ccatalfo to take a first look at the issue we found... it seems that Facebook now refuses to allow its content within a frame, as we’re attempting to do on LibraryThing. At least we know what the likely culprit is!
Thanks for your patience with this, all.

I am using Chrome. There is no longer a share link at all in the top right corner, no matter where I am. My page, my books, etc.
28Robertgreaves
The window to post reviews to FB seems to have migrated to the Add books page
29clamairy
>28 Robertgreaves: You're right. My share window popped up there using my phone, even though I tried to share from my desktop about six hours ago. Thank you.
30kristilabrie
>28 Robertgreaves: Ah, good catch. That happens if you try to save and share a review on FB and/or Twitter - the "Share?" lightbox shows up on "Add books" instead. Making note.
31LibraryCin
Oh, no! My popup to share to Twitter is not appearing, even after going to the "your books" page. :-(
Oh... now I "get" what >28 Robertgreaves: means (I initially didn't understand)! Have headed to the Add Books page and the popup appeared. Thanks for the tip!

Just wanted to pop in to say the popup appeared immediately after saving my review this time! No need to switch to a different page today!

>33 LibraryCin: Confirming that it worked properly when I cross-posted a review to FB yesterday
36LibraryCin
I might have to try sharing to facebook again to see if it works. Or, am I going to have to continually clear my cache to do so. I assume that will be the case, but at least we don't have to steer away to another (specific) page to get the popup now!
37kristilabrie
Is anyone still having trouble sharing reviews from LT to Twitter? I tested this morning and saw no issues on my Mac/Chrome.
If you're still having trouble, can someone please post a new bug report? I want to keep this one for the Facebook issues, which we're going to be diving into soon. Thanks for your patience.

So, are reviews the only things we can share now? I used to be able to share what I was currently reading (once I had added it to that collection), and I could share what rating I had just given a book.
39kristilabrie
>38 clamairy: No, you are correct: we have a /yourfeed.php page for this, but it was hidden from view when we removed the "Share" button from the top-right of the site. I wasn't sure what we were doing with it, but we're talking about that now. We're going to put it somewhere visible. I'll work on testing those other share options.
40kristilabrie
https://www.librarything.com/yourfeed.php has been moved to the Homepage (/home), under "Your World" in the left-hand menu. Just FYI.
41kristilabrie
Bugs to fix: those reported at >20 kristilabrie: and see below for Your Feed.
Your Feed (testing on Chrome)
1. go to https://www.librarything.com/yourfeed.php and open dev console
2. click "Share this" on any event/item
3. Share? lightbox opens, with this error in dev console: "GET https://www.librarything.com/js2/yourfeed.js?4970 net::ERR_ABORTED 404" at https://www.librarything.com/ajax_shareblast.php?idA=599624688
4. click "Post to Facebook" - similar behavior described in >20 kristilabrie:, with "Refused to display 'https://www.facebook.com/' in a frame because it set 'X-Frame-Options' to 'deny'." at chromewebdata/:1
Twitter sharing seems fine.

I wanted to mention that I have a similar problem right now. The first review posted just fine to Facebook but the second review didn't show my review, just some generic information about LibraryThing in the Facebook window.
43themulhern
I took the advice from https://www.librarything.com/topic/347735#8048580, and that works fine for me, though. I'm not using a mobile, though, and mobile users may view the whole thing differently.
44themulhern
The advice has stopped working for me. I seem to be getting a generic librarything preview, not the one that actually shows the book cover. However, if I click on the generic librarything link, it goes to my review. It insert a facebook id into the URL and that may be the problem https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.librarything.com%2Freview%2F258.... Nope, that is not it...hmmm.
46froxgirl
https://www.librarything.com/work/20010650/details/259592710&savedbook=1 This does NOT create a review on FB. It makes a generic "Librarything.com" preview, as reported above.
47Robertgreaves
I've been finding that the popup window just shows a general LT preview, but although it confirms that something has posted to FB when I look at my FB page I find nothing has been posted. I assumed it was something to do with FB being down earlier this week, but it is persisting.
49Robertgreaves
I am still having problems cross-posting reviews to FB. When I try, this is what the LT pop-up window looks like:

>48 froxgirl: Thanks for your patience. I think, in lieu of the regular issues between sharing directly to Twitter and Facebook by integration, we've decided to implement this suggestion: https://www.librarything.com/topic/352804 that will allow members to do a much simpler copy-and-paste share to social media. We just need to do it! This RSI has not yet been forgotten, and we'll be sure to announce when that happens.
53kristilabrie
>52 froxgirl: At least after the PLA (Public Libraries Association) Conference next month, probably after that. I can't promise an immediate timeline, but it's high on our list.
