Coming of Age Book about a Boy who Moves to NYC in the 80s

I bought this book from a bookstore in Spain in 2019 but I read it in English and am pretty sure it was written by an American author considering it was set in NYC. The book is about a boy who moves to NYC and becomes fast friends with an outspoken and "wild" girl. I can't remember how he meets her but she allows him to crash with her at her college dorm and then when she graduates they move into an apartment together. I think the club scene in the 80s is a big part of the book. In the end, the boy goes to visit the girl after they have some kind of falling out and she moves to San Francisco. She also has a baby at the end of the book. I think the book cover was pink.
