In the early 2000s I found a book in my local library Kansas City, KS that I read to my kids many times.
It was about the color red. I can't remember much else, but it was funny and fun for my kids.
If I recall the cover was either mostly Red with black on it or White with black and red.
It seems like the pictures were all in Red, White, and Black.
I now work at the library system where I originally found the book, but it doesn't seem to still have it after almost 20 years.
I'm not sure Red was in the title, but I am positive the book was about the color Red. I feel like maybe Red wanted to take the day off, but I'm not sure if that's the plot.
And it's not "Red, A Crayon's Story" I've read that and it's definitely not the book I'm thinking of.

>1 kmanherz98: What about Rusty's Red Vacation? It's not about the color red, but its illustrations contain only black, white, and red, and it has a simple narrative (about a family going on vacation) that I could see kids enjoying if it were read to them.
I had a hard time finding interior spreads, but there's a YouTube storytime video of the entire book here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Me_Oa45XTk

>2 slimikin: Thank you so much for your effort. That book is cute, but unfortunately that's not the one I was thinking of. I do appreciate the response though.

Probably a long shot, but Anne Likes Red? The cover I had as a child isn't on LibraryThings, but it was entirely black, white, and red (without the blue background).

Red Is Best by Kathy Stinson?

It's not just about red, but it does have the colors wanting to take the day off. Could it be The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt?

>8 saskia17: Thank you for the suggestion. I just read this and it's great, but unfortunately still not the book I was thinking of. Thanks for trying though.

The book is "Get Red! an Adventure in Color" by Glenn Deutsch, Mitch Rice, and Tony Porto
I was actually able to find it through Worldcat and then was able to read it on Archive.org
