ya novel, kid has magic bag that's actually a room

I remember reading this book around 2014 or so. It involves a kid, I think a boy, who has this magical bag that is actually an entire room. Like he steps into it and it's stairs leading down to a whole new room. I think it was a fantasy novel without any horror or romance. Thanks in advance!
