Part of a quite good series of books by Alan Morehead, a war correspondent, written during and immediately following events of WW2 Not well documented or literary masterpieces but gritty recollections of someone who was there. Definitely a Montgomery apologist; identifying Eisenhower as the instigator for Market Garden and calling the Battle of the Bulge Monty's finest battle victory. He fell in love with him in Africa and kept that rosy vision in place through Caen, Arnhem, the Bulge and the Rhine fiascoes. Monty did good work early, then began to believe his own press releases. Still the book is a good narrative picture of the Allies European campaign and victory. ( )
