This is a book of poetry that includes humor, facts, and animals! I really enjoyed this book. The pictures are humorous and the poem contains words that are sideways on the page and sentences that curve around, which just adds to the read. It would be a great book to get the kids started hearing poetry and seeing how fun it can be. It could be read to a class before students have to create their own small poem about an animal. I highly recommend! ( )

This book is perfect for first grade when looking at the zone of proximal development. There are many familiar words in the poems that the kids would recognize, however there are some challenge words that the students would have to sound out and then use context clues in order to figure out what the word is and what it means. I would use select poems out of it as a read aloud for kindergarten with animals that are already familiar to them, especially in a science unit or before a zoo field trip. I would also use it as a read aloud for first and second grade and as an independent read for first and second grade because they would be able to figure out the words. ( )

I think this book would be good for kindergarten- second grade. Students in Kindergarten can be introduced to this book and poetry through read-aloud. As they get older, they can be read this book aloud for lessons that have to do with fluency and structure of a poem. ( )
