When girl meets Duke, their marriage breaks all the rules...

Since his return from war, the Duke of Ashbury's to-do list has been short and anything but sweet: brooding, glowering, menacing London ne'er-do-wells by night. Now there's a new item on the list. He needs an heirâ??which means he needs a wife. When Emma Gladstone, a vicar's daughter turned seamstress, appears in his library wearing a wedding gown, he decides on the spot that she'll do.

His terms are simple:

- They will be husband and wife by night only.

- No lights, no kissing.

- No questions about his battle scars.

- Last, and most importantly... Once she's pregnant with his heir, they need never share a bed again.

But Emma is no pushover. She has a few rules of her own:

- They will have dinner together every evening.

- With conversation.

- And unlimited teasing.

- Last, and most importantly... Once she's seen the man beneath the scars, he can't stop her from falling in love...… (mehr)

I loved this book even more the second time around. It's so funny and sweet.
-------------------------------------
This is a very funny romance about a convenient marriage between a seamstress and a duke. The hero was seriously injured during battle a few years before and was left with many scars. The heroine was abandoned by her family and had to support herself from a young age.

I liked both main characters, as well as the supporting characters. All of the characters were pretty ridiculous at times, but were very entertaining. The chemistry between the main characters was great and their banter was fun. Each of the main characters have issues that they are dealing with, and they worked though them in a fairly reasonable way.

I listened to this audio book and it was very well done. The narrator was great with the voices, but the male voices sometimes sounded silly. ( )

Witty repartee. Many will doubtless complain that it is more modern than Regency times but this IS fiction. I enjoyed it. ( )

... "You will shine like a jewel! A ruby! An extraordinarily big ruby. You will be the world's largest ruby on record, I suppose, one with... arms."

Emma tucked his words away to treasure later. And treasure them she would. "You're beautiful." No matter what happened, she would always have that. And the part about the jewel with arms, she supposed.

This was my second time reading this book, and I must say, I adored it even more!

It's simply perfect. The humor, the wit, and all the fluffy goodness—it's all there.

Every single character exudes charm! The banter between Ash and Emma was not only charming but also incredibly witty. I found myself laughing out loud multiple times.

5/5 for any classic/cheesy Historical Romance enthusiast! ( )

This was a quick but very enjoyable read for me.

I Love that the Duke of Ashbury maintained his brusque manner throughout the story but at the same time contradicted it at every turn. He even let a young man become his "apprentice" for the Monster of Mayfair which was adorable.

I adored how Emma teased him with pet names at each available opportunity, when they were playing badminton and she exclaimed and called him a darling angel muffin, I lost it.

Tessa Dare knows how to write stories that are funny, delightful, and sexy!

I grew up a PK ("preacher's kid"). Emma, the heroine of this book, is a vicar's daughter. I want to make clear that Emma's father is nothing like my own. My father was—and is—loving, patient, supportive, and understanding.
Thanks, Dad. This book's for you.
Please don't read chapter 7,9,11,17,19,21,or 28.
