I never knew that dragons were working behind the scenes to control the events in Pride and Prejudice, however, until I read this book. But it works! Elizabeth, her father, and Mary are all dragon friends who can hear dragons. I love that Mary finally has a role and a voice (and an explanation for why she is so often forgotten). I also loved how Jane Austen's voice was so clearly heard throughout the book. And unlike many Austen retellings (of which there are admittedly far too many), this one kept the Austen story and feel while introducing something entirely novel to the story. The dragons were all unique, from cranky to needy to flighty to wise. The variety (and lack of typecasting) was surprising and fun. And just when it seemed I had a handle on all the different types of dragons, a new one would be introduced. Regarding the characters, the two youngest Bennett sisters and their mother are identical to their characters in the book. Darcy is equally smart and snobby, but seems to be a bit more clueless at times. Elizabeth and her father make the most interesting characters, although Mary is a close third. Mr. Bennett is much more calculating (though not necessarily in a cold way) than in the books. And Elizabeth has a reason for her strong character - it's necessary because of her gift of understanding dragons. And, oh, Mr. Collins! He is worse than the original story if that is even possible. How will Elizabeth ever get out of marrying him this time with Mr. Bennett so firmly on his side! The narration was very well done. I felt like I was walking next to the characters for as clearly as I heard their voices. There was an odd pause in two places, but that seems to be an editing error and the story picked up accurately after the pauses. I received a free copy of this book from Story Origin and have reviewed it voluntarily. pride-prejudice-characters, romantic, England, fantasy, historical-fiction, humor I have been enamored of dragons ever since reading both Lady Trent (similar time frame and country) and Tesser (USA and present day). This mash up of P&P with dragon culture is great! It was fun hearing narrator Benjamin Fife do British! I love his abilities! I really enjoyed reading this variation of Pride and Prejudice and how the author created a world with dragons that seemed so easy to imagine. I loved all the characters and getting to know all the dragons and their different personalities. While this book didn't leave off on a cliffhanger and could leave off here I definitely do want to read more of this series to find out what happens next and how Elizabeth and Darcy's relationship will develop later in the series since they haven't reached an understanding yet by this point. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen

England is overrun by dragons of all shapes and sizes. Most people are blissfully unaware of them and the Pendragon Treaty that keeps the peace between human and dragon kind. Only those born with preternatural hearing, like Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet are able to hear and converse with dragonkind. When the first firedrake egg laid in a century is stolen from Pemberley, the fragile dragon peace teeters on collapse. Darcy has no choice but to chase down the thief, a journey that leads him to quaint market town of Meryton and fellow Dragon Keeper, Elizabeth Bennet. Elizabeth shares a unique bond with dragons, stronger than anything Darcy has ever experienced. More than that, her vast experience and knowledge of dragon lore may be the key to uncovering the lost egg. But Elizabeth can't stand Darcy's arrogance and doesn't trust him to care properly for a precious baby firedrake. After all, he already lost the egg once. What's to prevent it from happening again? Can he win her trust and recover the stolen egg before it hatches and sends England spiraling back into the Dark Ages of Dragon War? Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |

I love dragons so I am enjoying the story, but not everything is resolved as the tale continues to Book 2 (then 3). I look forward to finding out what happens to the other characters (not Darcy/Elizabeth) who can hear the dragons.
(Having found out the fate of Mary Bennet in Book 3 WIP I have given up on this trilogy) ( )
