Gifted Education for Gifted Students is an useful guide for teachers It is well-written and easy to read, and would be helpful to parents. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review: [3.5/5]This book is satisfactory in the introduction to Gifted Students, however I would say that it is simply an introduction and does not delve as deep into the topic as it should. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. GIFTED EDUCATION AND GIFTED STUDENTS provides a solid introduction to issues associated with gifted education. It is an appropriate text for a survey course on special education in the context of an undergraduate education degree; it is aimed at practitioners, or would-be practitioners, not at parents or policy-makers. Because the book is so brief and because its intention is simply to sketch out issues gifted students and their teachers might encounter, the authors do not develop their topics in detail. The book does include extensive references, however, so readers can pursue their own research. The brevity of the text would make the book limitedly relevant for students in graduate school. For any teacher or education student trying to understand the current shape of the discourse around giftedness today, this is a satisfactory introduction. I would encourage anyone currently teaching in English-speaking North America who has not taken coursework in gifted education to read this book. It may help to dispel some of the most damaging and persistent myths around gifted students and their needs. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. This little booklet (71 pages plus references) gives a good, solid introduction into the subject of gifted learners and how to work with them. Geared towards teachers and teachers-to-be, here's a helpful guide to the rather complex topic of how to teach/ educate gifted students. In fact, I think this publication is probably something that helps people who specialize on this topic during their studies to become teachers. This is NOT the kind of Prufrock Press publication that offers copy-able material to be used in class as it is not material for the classroom. Diese Rezension wurde für LibraryThing Early Reviewers geschrieben. This is a solid introduction book to use with general classroom teachers who are just being exposed to the area of gifted education. It is a quick read with questions that could facilitate its use in a book study. It would be even more effective if the authors developed a leaders guide for it. The content includes all the basics to get anyone started - theory and definitions of gifted, basics about social emotional needs, and starters for instruction. But, everything is quickly highlighted without depth, so additional reading and professional development would be needed as follow up for teachers who will actually work with gifted learners. The one missing element was acknowledgement that definition, identification, acceleration, and service models are often dictated by state laws that vary widely across the country. Although most teacher education programs offer classes on special education and English language learners, teachers often do not receive any training in the needs of high-ability students or gifted education practices. This book: Prepares inservice and preservice teachers to educate high-ability students. Addresses learning targets through a combination of research and practical strategies. Includes a selection of activities to check for teacher understanding. Is concise and user-friendly. Is perfect for both individual and collaborative learning. Each chapter opens with a driving question and a list of learning targets related to various topics, including key philosophies, theories, and models; educational factors that enhance or inhibit talent development; characteristics of advanced learners; and the role of culture, ethnicity, and language inthe identification process.
