Wildlife Explorer is broken down into 8 groups - Mammals, Birds, Reptiles & Amphibians, Fish, Invertebrates, Exploring Behavior, World Explorer and Conservation Orders. Once you get past Mammals and Birds is when they just start grouping insect types such as Starfish of this subspecies, etc. while the first two categories have the most cards that cover individual species.
The animal cards are very detailed and well organized with plenty of colored pictures to break-up all the information. There are maps to show where they come from, information on how well they are making it in the world, fun facts that cover almost anything and of course the scientific information of each animal while on the back of each card is a breakdown of the most important part of the anatomy.
With Exploring Behavior it breaks the cards down into exploring different categories of interest such as sleeping, animal locomotion, etc. Most of the cards are Group differentiated thus covering only animals within that Group.
My favorite non-animal group was World Explorer as it took you to different geographic places such as Yosemite or mangrove estuaries. It would cover the place where it was, the date it became a national heritage or park, the different type of animals found living in it or which creatures for what layers and occasionally the translation of the name such as the Gobi Desert means the Pebble Desert. And it is since of this that I chose to also put this under place-books.
And finally the Conservation Group. These cards covered topics of saving just one particular species - what was done to it in the past, what is being now and what may be done in the future. Other cards just covered other known methods such as recycling, stopping pollution, etc.
Again this was a beautiful collection and I was happy to be a receiver of it, especially now as they have discontinued it. It is truly a treasure for any home. ( )
