I liked the way the author approached the story, splitting the narrative into different points of view that kept you guessing what was true while slowly revealing what had really happened. Although I had my suspicions, it kept me guessing until the end. ( ) Teenagers with secrets set out to find a missing girl whose disappearance they know more about than the police can pry out of them. Okay, but has something of a YA angsty feel to it that I found a bit trying, along with the angsty detective. The setting, pacing, and plot were well done, and overall the writing style is accomplished. I may simply be uninterested in spending so much time with teens. The entire town thinks sixteen-year-old Sadie Saunders is dead. Missing now for a week, they say she was murdered. And they think they know who did it. Sadie's five best friends aren’t so sure, and they vow to find out the truth. So they pack their bags and head into the woods where Sadie was last seen. This starts with a call to emergency services. That sucks you in. But then it goes to Day 6… Day 6 of Sadie Saunders disappearance. I felt like I had really missed something. When the police are interviewing the group of friends, it is just each individual talking to the police. Telling their story, but there are no questions from the police. The kids are talking. That took a little bit to get used to as there were no actual “interviews”. There are two investigations going on. One is the search for Sadie, and the other is the investigation as to what happened in the woods, while the kids were searching for her. Although I was confused while reading this a little bit, it all connected and tied up nicely. I didn’t really suspect the outcome. This book was given to me by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Simon Lelic and Berkley Publishing Group. Wow. I actually really enjoyed this. A missing girl; her teenage friends the obvious suspects; small town claustrophobia and prejudices; a search party that does not end in the spirit that it set out; obfuscation and misdirection (and not just on the part of the author!); clever use of the one sided interview to reveal the story from the perspective of the group - what more could a reader want! "A twisty, electrifying new thriller from the author of The New Neighbors and The Liar's Room... The entire town thinks sixteen-year-old Sadie Saunders is dead. Missing now for a week, they say she was murdered. And they think they know who did it. Sadie's five best friends aren't so sure, and they vow to find out the truth. So they pack their bags and head into the woods where Sadie was last seen. But they're not just friends, they're suspects. And each of them has a secret. As the landscape opens up, and the darkness closes in, the reality of their situation becomes clear... This was never really a search party. It's a witch hunt. And not everyone will make it home alive"-- Keine Bibliotheksbeschreibungen gefunden. |
