This young man becomes busy with his new family and caught up with his responsibilities. The sky turns black over the village and the ground is hot, just like the elder said it would happen if the drum was not played. Jamari began to play the beat of the drum and the black sky went away and the ground cooled. This book is about following your values and remembering where you came from. ( ) This is the story of a young boy who learns the ways of drumming like his elders. The drumming is very important to his village. However, the young boy slacks off on his task of drumming and the village starts to face trouble. In the end, the young man remembers the importance of his task and saves his village. I think this is a great story because it teaches students the importance of tradition and culture. It is a story that allows children to focus on what is important in their own culture, as well as their own family traditions. Even though it is a fairly easy read, I would probably use this up to fourth grade. This is a story about keeping the traditions of a culture alive. Jamari was given the job of playing the djembe, an afican drum, to keep the volcano in his village calm. As time passes, he forgets about his reponsibility and focuses on his life until the volcano errupts. He remembers the drum and plays it until the volcano calms down and by doing this he saves his village. Love the illustrations, they're beautiful. The story is pretty good too. It's about Jamari, a young man from an African villiage who is passed on a great responsibility for his villiage. He must now beat the rhythm of the great djembe drum everyday, for it is an important job. Jamari however soon puts his personal responsibilities before his responsibilities to his villiage, and the consequences are grave. The volcano near the villiage starts to erupt and the only way to save it is by playing his djembe in the way that the elders taught him. He does save the villiage and learns the importance of not losing old traditions. keine Rezensionen | Rezension hinzufügen
Little Jamari loves the sound of the great village drum and often sits at drummer Baba's feet. "Why do you play every day?" he asks. "The drum is the keeper of peace in the village," Baba replies. Time passes and many of the village elders pass on. One day Jamari agrees to take over the beating of the drum, to keep the peace. But little by little, he forgets his promise until disaster looms. What will Jamari do to bring back peace? Featuring acclaimed artist Baba Diakit#65533;'s gorgeous illustrations, Jamari's Drum offers a simple, compelling lesson about duty and the greater good.
