His Secret Highland Bride by Alison B. Hanson
Clan MacPherson Series #1

Marriage of convenience to avoid a marriage based on clan alliance filled with lies of omission and secrets kept does not set Shane and Lindsay up for smooth sailing!

What I liked:
* Shane’s rush to rescue a woman in distress
* Lindsay’s feisty strength, caring nature, and indomitable will
* Munro: blacksmith, widow, and someone willing to take in three boys in need of security
* Meeting Shane’s siblings: Alec, Ronan, and Tory – they will probably have books of their own
* The setting – love Scotland and thinking about romances there
* That it wasn’t all light and bright but in some ways more realistic due to the situation of the clans losing so much to a thief and the impact it would have
* Wondering if the thief will ultimately be caught and tried by the end of the series
* Thinking about an alliance made by Shane with the Campbells and how it will impact his brother
* That Shane and Lindsay were able to communicate fairly well until they hit a wall – glad they were able to eventually get over that hurdle
* Thinking about finding out how the couple will be doing in the future books of this series

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Times I would think, “Could this happen?” and wondering how believable it might be

Did I enjoy this book? It was okay
Would I read more in this series? I believe I would like to see what happens next

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Her Forbidden Highlander Husband by Allison B. Hanson
Clan MacKinley #3

Evelyn and Liam both had difficult pasts but became strong and resilient over time. This book is a slower building romance that is worth waiting for when the two finally find their way. A nice addition to the series.

What I liked:
* Evelyn: paid a high price when she ran away when younger, kidnapped by rough men, abused, eventually returned home, considered damaged goods, but also a bargaining chip to her father.
* Liam: war chief of the MacKinlay Clan, orphan, has fleeting memories of his past, has always wanted a family to belong to, dreams of having Evelyn as his wife, a wonderful man that deserved the best.
* That the chemistry was not instant…at least on Evelyn’s part.
* That Liam was willing to wait for Evelyn and take it slow
* Gwennie: a sweet child born of rape but loved all the same
* The way Liam was willing to take in children and create a family
* Getting to see the characters from the previous two books in the series
* The way the women talked together, shared responsibilities, and were friends in the castle
* The relationship between the husbands and wives
* That the clan stood together
* The swift judgement of those that infringed on the clan
* The way Liam eventually found out who his sire was
* That it seemed true to the times
* It made me think about what happened to orphaned children left from parents killed in battles
* It made me glad to be me and living in this era even though times can sometimes still be tough

What I didn’t like:
* The way Evelyn’s father treated her
* Knowing that women were considered chattel and the possession of their father then their spouse
* What Liam and Evelyn suffered in the past

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes

Her Reluctant Highlander Husband by Allison B. Hanson
A Clan MacKinley Novel #3

An arranged marriage sees widow Bryce MacKinley Campbell wed to Dorrie McCurdy. She arrives barefoot and in rags and he drags his feet to the altar. It is not a bright beginning for the two and it takes a LONG time for them to find their way to an eventual HEA. I think I preferred book one in the series but enjoyed this one, too. If you are willing to suspend belief and think of this as a fairy tale then it works.

What I liked:
* Dorrie: Even after 9 years in what was essentially solitary confinement, she seemed resilient. I might have questioned it, but I did admire her.
* Bryce: warrior, widow, mired in grief or regret or perhaps guilt. Living but not alive. He had a lot of growing to do.
* The slow coming together of the couple, although it wore after awhile
* Rascal: a brave, friendly, courageous rescue dog
* Dorrie’s biological father’s family – was on the fence for awhile about Dorien, her father
* The location and MacKinley tribe
* That the McCurdy’s received their just desserts
* That there was finally a happy ending
* Wondering who might star in book three of the series…Liam or Rory or someone else

What I didn’t like:
* The McCurdy’s
* That it took so long for Bryce to “wake up”
* That I had more trouble investing in this couple – not sure why – I wanted them to figure it out but I really wanted to sit them down, especially Bryce, and tell them to get one with things and see what was before them.

Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes

Her Accidental Highland Husband by Allison B. Hanson
Clan MacKinlay #1

Kill or be killed
That was her choice
Kill him she did and then
She ran for her life.

Dogs on her heels
Men on horses
She ran and breathless
She saw a braw man.

Climbing him like a tree
She whispered in his ear
Would he save her
Or turn her away.

A pursuer asked her a question
He asked her again
The braw man and she answered
And the words spoken changed their lives forever.

This was a wonderful book! The introduction captured my attention and the way Cam and Mari met was perfection. I loved it from beginning to end!

What I liked:
* Mari: raised to make the perfect match, obedient, abused by her husband, fearful but stronger than she knew. I really liked her character.
* Cam: a man that avoided love and marriage, a devoted friend, humorous, intelligent, a man who loved deeply once he fell. He was a man I admired.
* Kenna and Lachlan: sister and brother-in-law to Mari, truly in love with one another, put the clan first though it wasn’t always easy.
* The Dowager Duchess of Endsmere: a curmudgeonly old woman guarding her heart, suffered a loss long ago, and has secrets that might save a life
* The whole story…the highs and lows, happy times and sad one, all of it from beginning to end!

What I did not like:
* That women were considered no better than possessions to be treated as the men in their lives chose
* The laws of the times

Did I like this book? Definitely
Would I read more in this series? As soon as possible!

Her Accidental Highlander Husband by Allison B. Hanson is an exceptionally well written tale.
The storyline will grab you from the start and hold you in awe. The characters are engaging, charming and realistic. An emotional rollercoaster that will make you cry, laugh, and so many other emotions as you watch Marian and Cam’s story, come to life. While part of a series, "MacKinley Clan."I feel it can be read as a stand alone.
An interesting and unpredictable story of love, danger, and so much more. An enjoyable and satisfying read.

A relationship of convenience becomes a conflict of interest. What starts as some after hours fun between co-workers, becomes tricky real fast when hearts become involved. Will the queen of ice thaw enough for the master of seduction to make his move? Temporary is about to become permanent in a very complicated way. Ms. Hanson keeps it light while dealing with some tough characters. Getting Down to Business is a seductively amusing, mass of contradictions that makes an hard to resist ride.

Lex and Ian were going to be together for the rest of their lives. So in love, neither expected anything could get in the way of their happiness. But life has a way of sneaking up on a person. The good and the bad. Will they find the way back to one another? When Least Expected by Allison B. Hanson is about facing regret, learning how to forgive and admitting as well as coming to terms with past mistakes. Neither character is completely blameless and each needs to realize the part their actions played. I received When Least Expected in exchange for an honest review. Am always a fan of a story with a little matchmaking. The twist of it being from beyond was a hoot. Thanks NetGalley and Kensington for bringing a wonderful new author to my attention.

Review:

"Watched from a Distance" by Allison B. Hanson

My Thoughts.....

If you are looking for an intensed, romantic suspense and thriller read then you have come to the right place as this series will give it to you and so much more. "Watched for a Distance" features 'Us Marshall Dane Ryan now a member of Task Force Phoenix and single mom Lena Scott.' Little did Dane know that he would be knocked out by a whisky bottle and Lena who had taken him to a drug and human trafficker named Vicktor Kulakov who was a evil man that had 'kidnapped Dane's son for his cooperation in finding a man that he wanted killed.'

Who was this person that Vicktor wanted brought to him? How was it that both Dane and Lena families all depended on this same evil man? What will they have to do in order to take him down and get safety for their families? So now we have Vicktor who has Dane's son Tobey and wants him to bring a certain person to him by the name of Robbie Vanderhook. So, what will happen when Dane and Lena set off to find this person? How will this turn out where we find these two people [Dane & Lena] are thrown together and must learn a way to trust one another? What will happen when Lena finally tells Dane the whole story 'whose' daughter [Mackenzie] had been kidnapped and was being held to coerce her to do this criminal's bidding' and they decide teams up with Dane's group to plan a rescue of both of their children? What had Lena's ex [Brandon] done that got her all involved in his mess with Vicktor in the first place? How will this story all come out as these two are thrown together? Now, to get all of these questions answered you will just have to pick up "Watched from a Distance" to see how these two will make it out of this whole entire mess.

Be ready for a long good read of 110 chapters, which I thought some of these chapters could have been merged together. However, this read is a fast paced read, romantic suspense along with secrets, drama and emotions with plenty of surprises that will keep your attention as you are turning the pages to see what was coming next. In the end you will get an enjoyable read of Dane and Lena's story that will get their HEA.

Watched from a Distance by Allison B. Hanson
Love Under Fire #3

What would you do to save the life of your child?
Would you lie?
Would you cheat?
Would you seduce?

Dane Ryan, a deputy marshal in task force phoenix, is faced with that question when faced with his son tied to a chair and told by ruthless Viktor Kulakov to bring in a man for killing. Little does he know at first that the person who lured him in is in the same boat he is and has already made a deal with the devil for her own child’s safety.

Laura Scott has remained strong as she follows orders from Viktor but her strength is beginning to fray as are her nerves when Dane shows up on the scene. She wonders if she should continue to do as Viktor says or align herself with Dane and his team to try to get her daughter back. And, if she decides incorrectly she might never see her daughter again.

This seems to be the final book in the series but I hope it will not be the last romantic suspense this author writes. I have enjoyed every one of the three books in this series and had hoped there would be more but it seems this is the end of the road since most of the men on the team have found their partners and want to start families. I am curious about what the men will do if they retire since that was not mentioned but other than that all the loose ends are tied up and it is nice to know the men are settling into their happily ever afters.

Wanted for Life by Allison B. Hanson
Love Under Fire #2

Grabbed from the beginning by the horror that Angela sees when she wakes in the morning I could not stop reading till I finished the book. Angela and Colton are given a second chance at love when she heads to his WITSEC location to lay low for a while. Their chemistry is still present even after the months apart but whether or not they will find a way to a HEA with all they have to deal with is not easily or quickly determined.

I really enjoyed the back stories of both characters that gave insight into what made them tick. I also enjoyed reading about how they ended up in the professions they did and how they were both questioning just what they wanted to do in the future and how best to go about it.

This was intense and suspenseful with a mystery to solve, a murderer to deal with, a prototype to get back and a romance with a potential HEA to enjoy.

Did I like this book? Yes
Do I want to read the next book in the series? Yes
Do I recommend this book? Yes

Witness in the Dark by Allison B. Hanson
Love Under Fire #1

What would you do if you were the only eyewitness to a murder? Would you call the police? Would you be willing to testify? Would doing so be worth risking your life? Would you be willing to turn your back on everything and everyone to do what is right then start a new life in witness protection? Well, these are the question Samantha “Sam” Hutchinson faces one night when she accidentally sees a woman murdered and once she decides she can’t let a man with a high profile “get away with murder” her life changes forever. Each day brings Sam something new to deal with as she wonders if this day might be her last. AND if you were the one thinking today might be your last day…what would REALLY be important?

I was caught then kept engaged throughout this book wondering just what would happen next. I found Sam to be a strong female lead that was definitely a good match for Garrett. I loved the twists and turns and unveilings as they arrived and wondered how a woman likely going into witness protection would end up with a HEA. At the end of the book I wondered who will have their story told next in this series and whether or not this couple will show up at some point in the future.

Help Wanted by Allison B. Hanson
An On The Job Romance Series #1

Two romances in one book.

Kenley Carmichael, fired from her job for something she did not do, eventually ends up working for Zane Jackson. She is eager to learn everything she can about boats and is hopeful this will be a good job for her. Zane sees Kenley as the dead ringer of the girl he crushed on in HS and remains leery of her for most of the book. The second romance is between a man working for Zane and someone he meets while visiting a relative in a care center.

This book had a LOT going on it but nothing that was new or different from many other romances I have read. It was an okay read and entertaining but did not have the WOW factor that made me care, think, question and want to be friends with the characters as I got to know them. There were some threads I could not relate to but have a feeling some readers of this book will find meaningful/helpful. I felt at times that Kenley and Zane were acting more like they would in high school than they probably would be at nearly thirty and that said am thinking perhaps this is geared more toward NA readers even though the characters are a bit older than most in that genre.

I would like to thank NetGalley and Kensington Books-Lyrical Shine for the ARC – This is my honest review.

I hate to give a bad review, but unfortunately this book deserved one. This was a horrible book. Zane was a jerk, I could not see his appeal. The story was ridiculous, here is this grown man, who did not want to hire Kenley (heroine) because she looked like or reminded him of his high school crush. What?? How ridiculous, so of course he hires her story has to go on, and treats her bad, and then apologizes for his assholishness (yes I know not a word) but then he stays out of the office to avoid her because he does not want to have the same feeling of inadequacy he did as a teenager, did I say he was an idiot and this was ridiculous? Because it is..I was so upset with myself that I was reading this, and I was dedicating this time, that I could have given an actual good book, the reason I am writing this is to save you, the time and boredom..don't do it...
