I am allergic to the word "diet" but wanted to read something about the current state of knowledge about nutrition, such as it is.

This book was recommended by a nutritionist, and it was a very good read—even-handed and supported with carefully selected scientific evidence.

Very interesting to read, full of great information, which seems so obvious when you read it, but not anything I've ever really thought about. But now that I have read it, it makes so much sense that my family, friends, co-workers, and my home or other environments have an effect on me, my mood, my perception, my habits, esp eating habits, and the amount of exercise I get.

The book is structured in such a way that each chapter deals with one influencer on your life, but each chapter builds on previous ones.

For anyone who ever wondered how diet affects their long-term health. Willett is the link between medicine and bolstering your health so you minimize medical intervention. In other words, learn how your food (and also fitness) choices can help you reduce both incidence and severity of chronic disease.

Willett offers no nonsense, in depth analyses into each component of our diet and how it impacts the integrity of our system (mind and body). There is no super nutrient, and we should stop looking for one, is also made clear. The bottom line is that a varied diet, much in the Mediterranean fashion but appropriated to your region's bounty, along with lifelong weight management, is a guarantee that you have done your part to stay healthy.

Informative and well documented. You will leave the book with an understanding of the impact of dietary choices on your health and life style. I am not much on the receipes, but the knowledge of healthy eating (why and what) has made a difference. It is an easy and enjoyable read. brooksbooks wrote "if you only read one diet book - this should be the one." Cannot make that statement, but of the dietary books I've read, this is my choice.

If you only read one diet book - this should be the one. The main focus of the book is not a diet per se, but rather enabling the reader to critically interpret new report on other diets - particularly those based diets from elsewhere in the world. The author also uses large data sets from his own research the Harvard School of Public Health to describe trends in diet in diet and health. At the end of the day, it is calories in and calories out - but he does a good job of describing why.½
