Just to qualify, the host will be responsible for posting the monthly thread, we usually request that the thread is up on the 15th of the previous month. Your first post should describe the theme and perhaps give us a few examples. You will also be responsible for adding your month to the Wiki so that we can list our reads there.
Author Cat Wiki: https://wiki.librarything.com/index.php/2022_AuthorCAT
Please remember to let us know when your AuthorCat thread is up and I will add the address to the above list so others can find it easily.

This is one of the two I will be participating in. I will think about other themes to add.
3sallylou61
Possibly nonfiction authors (or would that come under genre authors?) --- possibly list some of the different genres
Also, I assumed that this would be books by these authors instead of about these authors. Is this a correct assumption?

>3 sallylou61: I will add non-fiction authors to the list above.
Yes, I also figured that we would read books by the authors that fit the themes - not books about the author.

How about Indigenous writers?
And because the African&AsianCAT didn't get up, Writers born or living in Africa and Asia.
ETA LT Authors, Series Authors, Authors from your own country, Nineteenth Century Authors

>6 pamelad: The African/Asian authors suggestion is a good idea, as I think Africa/AsiaCAT got a fair bit of discussion going even though it didn't ultimately become a CAT.
I wonder if we need female/male authors? CATWoman is one of the other CATs, and I would imagine that men will probably be pretty highly represented in the other suggestions. I think quite a few of us are already trying to increase our reading of female authors, and I would prefer (I think) to try and do that across the monthly suggestions where I can.

>8 Jackie_K:. I like Jackie's suggestion about female/male authors. The female authors could easily be covered in CATWoman.
10DeltaQueen50
I will remove the male/female authors from the list.
11Jackie_K
Can I ask what 'LT authors' means? Are you referring to authors who have an LT profile, or something else?
12pamelad
>11 Jackie_K: Yes. Authors who have a profile on LT.

>3 sallylou61: I also assumed that the monthly themes would refer to books by the authors but now that you mention it would books about authors work as one month's theme? People could choose biographies of authors or books where an author is a main character.
14DeltaQueen50
>13 Robertgreaves: Interesting idea, Robert. I will add it to the list.
15Tess_W
Indigenous authors.......indigenous to where? Will the host pick several geographic areas from which to choose?
16pamelad
>15 Tess_W: I was thinking about Australian aboriginal people, Native Americans i.e. the people who lived in a country before it was colonised. Reader to choose which country.
17LibraryCin
>16 pamelad: I really like that option and hope it is chosen for one of the months.
18DeltaQueen50
Since we've had no more suggestions for topics and very little discussion in the last 48 hours I think we can now look for volunteers to pick a month and a topic that they wish to host. If you have an idea that hasn't been added to the top list, feel free to use it as your topic. I will be taking a month but I will wait for now to let others have first choice.
If you have any questions or concerns please post them so we can discuss.

You can and thanks, Lisa!

May I have Asian Authors for July?
24DeltaQueen50

There are two I want to happen, but I don't know that I want to host two months to make sure of it! LOL! (Well, there's more than that, but two for sure...)
I need to decide...
I need to decide...

Just spotting this thread. I'll volunteer for 19th century authors. I'll take February.
27DeltaQueen50
>26 thornton37814: Great, Lori. I've added you to the list.
29DeltaQueen50
>28 clue: That sounds like an interesting topic. Thanks for volunteering, do have a month in particular you would like to host or should I just slot you into March.
30thornton37814
>27 DeltaQueen50: Thanks. There are 2 n's in my last name (part of username).
31DeltaQueen50
>30 thornton37814: I've corrected that, Lori. I have to admit that was a dumb typo as I know how to spell your name.
32thornton37814
>31 DeltaQueen50: My name is often misspelled. I think most people just don't hear the first "n."
33LibraryCin
Neither of the two I really want have been chosen yet, but I'm going to go ahead and choose one now. And just hope the other gets chosen, as well. :-)
I would like to do Nonfiction authors in June.
Thanks!

>33 LibraryCin: What's the other one you really want?
35DeltaQueen50
Thanks, Cindy, I will add you to June.
I've put Clue into March with "Authors first published at age 40 or later".
I will put myself into August with Prize Winning Authors.

4 more to go!
38LibraryCin
>34 SilverWolf28: I like the "Authors from your own country", although I suppose that's less appealing for those from the US.
ETA: Maybe those from the US could amend it to be just a bit trickier (if they want) and do an author from their state?

39sallylou61
>38 LibraryCin: If "Authors from your own country" is one of the topics selected, I would read an author from my state (Virginia) or Region (Appalachia).
42DeltaQueen50
>41 Kristelh: Excellent!
43sallylou61
This CAT is coming along very well for volunteers. Why don't I do favorite authors in December? In that busy month, we can relax and read a favorite author.
46DeltaQueen50
Okay folks, we have one more month to complete. If you are thinking of hosting or have a theme that you would like to see done, then this is your chance. November is still available.
47LibraryCin
>41 Kristelh: Yay! Thank you, Kristel!
48Kristelh
>47 LibraryCin: You're welcome Cindy and thanks for the inspiration.
49DeltaQueen50
I have decided that if no one comes forward in the next couple of days, I will take on November and I've been thinking of topics that I would like to see and have come up with a couple:
1. Authors who set their novels against real events - such as war, the making of certain movies, political events, headline news, life and death of famous people etc.
2. Authors who write about issues - mental illness, aging, divorce, marriage, race, religion, dealing with death, illness, bullying, rape etc.
Anybody have any thoughts which one you'd prefer or any other ideas that we could explore through the AuthorCat?

51DeltaQueen50
>50 Robertgreaves: Thanks, Robert. One vote for "real events"!
52dudes22
I'm going to vote for author's who write about issues (since I know I've got some books that will fit).
54susanna.fraser
>49 DeltaQueen50: Real events get my vote.
55pamelad
>49 DeltaQueen50: Another vote for real events. Could it include non-fiction?
56Crazymamie
Also liking the sounds of real events.
57DeltaQueen50
Well, I think "Real Events" seems to be the popular choice so that's what we'll go with.
We have now completed the AuthorCat schedule!!
ETA: >55 pamelad: Yes, Non-fiction should fit in here perfectly. I hope that non-fiction choices will fit all of our themes.

Majkia has graciously agreed to set up the Wiki for us in a few days. So we will soon be all set.
59LibraryCin

68LibraryCin
>67 Robertgreaves: LOL! Technically I had planned to get the post together today and post it tomorrow (but still only a day difference!), but yup - mid-May already!
Honestly, most of the time I start working on it at least the week before I plan to post, but this one was an easier one for me. Pretty broad, so not as much planning needed.
