Happy International Workers' Day! What 1001 books are you laboring over this month?

I'm continuing with Alias Grace and also plan to get to The House of Mirth.

I'm reading Bruno Schultz Street of Crocodiles which is very slow going; when I finish, it's on to the group read. On audio, meanwhile, I'm listening to Updike's Rabbit Redux which I don't like at all. How could the editors have put all three Rabbit books on the list?

There are four Rabbit novels, so at least we are spared one of them.

I'm thinking of just skipping the rest of the Rabbit books. I didn't care for the first and have heard nothing but negative opinions about the rest.

I am not off to a good start for May with two DNF's, Ratner's Star by Don DeLillo and The Bonfire of the Vanities by Tom Wolfe. The DeLillo surprises me. Usually, his writing is way over my head, but I still end up enjoying my time with it, but this one just didn't work for me. And with Wofle, one of the problems I had was the audio narrator, I did not like the accents he was using for most of the characters, and I just did not care for this story.

I think I will try The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields next.

Pushing my way through Villette and getting distracted by other books in the process...

I finished Sometimes a Great Notion, a phenomenal read. Not sure what is up next.
