Francine Pascal grew up in New York City and attended New York University. She is the author of the Sweet Valley High series, featuring twins Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield. She had originally planned the idea for a daytime soap for teens, but a close friend talked her into making the idea into a mehr anzeigen book series instead. Pascal has also written "Hangin' Out with Cici, which became an ABC After School Special called "My Mother Was Never a Kid", "The Hand-Me-Down Kid," also made into an ABC After School Special, "My First Love and Other Disasters," and "Love and Betrayal & Hold the Mayo." Worked with John Pascal as screenwriter for ABC soap "The Young Marrieds," and author of novel "The Strange Case of Patty Hearst." Had three daughters, Jamie, Laurie, and Susan, from first marriage. Oldest daughter Jamie died in 2008 of liver disease. Never remarried after John Pascal died of cancer in 1981. Divides her time between homes in New York and the south of France.

The Jessica and Elizabeth show von Francine Pascal
This is a good tale about letting "fame" go to your head and hurting your friends in the process. I have no idea why anyone would think kids chatting without a script would be a good TV show, but I guess I'm not the show's target audience! It all seems a lot to ask of a couple of seven-year-olds and I'm not surprised that it was too much for the twins to handle.
There's quite a lot going on here with a new babysitter, a juggling competition and some matchmaking, but that keeps the book lively. There's quite a fun sense of irony with the new first-person narratives, including a great comment in this one about Molly and her boyfriend being together for a huge five weeks ;)
Sweet Valley loves a book about sexism every now and then, and I am down for that (despite struggling a LOT with any kind of injustice, fictional or otherwise) but I do think it's unfortunate that this one revisits the soccer-related sexism from SVK 15 instead of finding another situation. Todd is a real prat here and I did find everyone's surprise at that a little hard to believe, given that he's OFTEN a prat, but oh well ;)
This was a nice story about cheating. I particularly liked Jess's complicated feelings about it—not as much guilty for what she did as upset that the other kids were unfairly accusing Liz of having cheated too. Both twins felt very in character and it was more nuanced than a lot of the SVK books.
