- John Lawrence is an English illustrator and wood engraver. Born in Hastings in 1933, he was educated at Salesian schools, and then at Hastings School of Art and at the Central School of Art and Design, where he was introduced to wood engraving by Gertrude Hermes. Lawrence taught at the Brighton School of Art in the 1960s, and at Camberwell School of Art until 1993. He taught at the Cambridge School of Art until 2010. He has illustrated more than 100 books, for both children and adults, and his work is represented in the Ashmolean, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Manchester Metropolitan University and Seven Stories in Newcastle.

I really enjoyed this book. The book is about a princess who was locked away by er parents when they were informed that her fait was to cause her to brothers to be killed. Upon her release the brothers set out to find her a husband as requested by the princess. The King of Peacocks then held the two brothers captive until he was to meet the princess. Through a series of misfortunes the princess was missing but with a turn of events the princess reunited with the King and the two brothers were released.
One reason why I liked this book was because of the magic that was incorporated. For example, when the princess was thrown over board she would no sink because she was on a bed made of "phoenix feathers." There were also fairies of which told the future of the princess. I also like this book because the illustrations are very unique. They are very vibrant and colorful with a watercolor texture.… (mehr)

It actually brought tears to my eyes to see how Bahrain was, and how it is in our present day with the Arab Spring conflicts.I pray that God brings peace and love to my hometown.
