I was thinking about how wonderful it is that there is no cap for the number of books you can have on your bookmooch wishlist, and I was just wondering how long everyone's bookmooch wishlists are.
I consider mine to be medium-ish, since I have around 350 on it. I usually add to it when reviews of books I'm interested in pop up, or I start a series and NEED to read the rest. How about you?

Mine's at an all-time high of 188 right now.
3iwillrejoice
942 (& counting...)
5bookel
2106 but there's less than that due to duplicates of the same thing (will be more accurate with minimal dupicates once I enter them on my LT wishlist). If you think that's large, you should see infiniteletter's...
7Moniica
My wishlist is tiny - only 22! And my save-for-later has 5 :P It's because my local library has most of the books I have on my tbr list (which is a few hundred long) and I only add rare books that are unlikely to pop up often (hence why the majority of them are Spanish children's books).
8EKAnderson
Mine is only 88. But I only joined last month!
9gimboid13
Similar to Moniica, I have only 40 on mine at the moment as, despite my best efforts, most of my tbr list is available at my local library.
10Spinifex
About 810 and encompassing a wide variety of subjects, from stock picking and mountaineering to quakerism and Jewish cooking.
12wester
Mine is 762 - it just keeps on expanding.
I have some duplicates, but not too much. I also keep it free from books that are available in any way, including related editions (excluding books in the wrong language, of course).
I am moving it to the LT wishlist as well now.

406, but it's growing at a healthy (or alarming, depending on how you look at it) rate.

@Size isn't everything.
Pfff. You're only saying that because mine is bigger than yours. *waggles eyebrow*

16VictoriaPL
470. I try to keep it below 500.
19Lind
Mine is 623 which is a bit longer than I'd like it to be. My problem is that I go through periods of adding books depending on what my interest is at the time, but editing the wishlist is such a painfully slow process that I rarely clean it up.
20skittles
400+
but I do edit periodically.
but I also have duplicate editions because if I want the book, I don't want to miss a chance to get it. There are only a few books where I already have the pb edition & really want the hardcover.

676 - it's pretty cleaned up right now, but I do have about a dozen books on the way to me that I'll need to take off soon. (bookcloseouts.com - good prices!)
I go in once or twice a week to take stuff off. It's MUCH easier to do this, if you do it a page at a time, rather than doing the whole list. (don't click ALL, click next page, clean, then next page.)
I add all the time! Often browse around Amazon, adding things to the Wishlist there, then use the Mooch button on the browser to add the whole list to my BM WL.

1407 so far! A bit excessive, but there are duplicates, and the vast majority don't come up on BM very often (if at all).
25Heather19
...... I always think my 240-book wishlist is a lot, until I look at other peoples. lol A lot of mine are duplicates, though, I don't always trust the "related edition notification" so I usually wishlist all editions of a book.
26TheLeMur
25: same. I have 350, and I feel like that's so much, but I have three or four editions of several books in my wishlist too, just so I know I'm covering all the bases. Sure, "show related editions" is nice, but will it really show me ALL editions? especially when a book is listed slightly differently several times. Though sometimes I do want one specific edition, in which case I will ignore the related ones until the one I want pops up.
27bookel
It only shows, I assume, the connected editions for those books with ISBNs on amazon. It does not include most incorrect spellings or those without ISBNs, or those listed on amazon.co.uk and not amazon.com etc. Therefore if you want the book it is good to wishlist everything.
28Danneeness
1641. It's where I add all books I'm interested in. Bookmooch is where I get all my books, pretty much. Better to have a big wishlist and ignore the ones I don't want right now than to not get the chance to snag them at all.
29gimboid13
Slightly off topic, but is it important to list duplicates with different ASIN/ISBNs to be sure of to be sure of not missing anything?
30bookel
If you click related editions on the book's page you will see the other books that are related to it. So you don't have to wishlist those related editions as, so long as you have it ticked, you should get notified of those related editions.
31WeHomeschool
I have over 2000 on my wishlist. Most of which I'll probably never see...
33karenmarie
158 unique books.
34Sararush
651, but I don't browse. I have the Moochbar. Almost everything I snag is off my wish list or the very rare, available copy on my first try.
35grizzly.anderson
kaykwilts> The bigger your wishlist the better the chances of snaggng a book.
but as Mr Andrew said size isn't everything
I've got a paltry 24 but that seems to be because I'm trying to mooch things that have never been available or are extremely popular. As a consequence most of the stuff that goes on my mooch wish list are books that fall in to the "interesting, but not interesting enough to actively pursue some other way" category. And I suspect it will continue to grow. I'll periodically decide to explore the recommendations and libraries here and find 4 or 5 more interesting books, maybe one of which is currently available.
And gimboid, it took me MONTHS to notice the "show related editions" button. As soon as I did, I found 2 books to mooch.

I've got both my wishlist and my save-for-later around 90, although honestly I should move some of my wishlist to my save-for-later. The latter is mostly a reminder of books I should try getting from the library, or might end up buying on my own, so I add books there more than to my wishlist these days.
I'm often really just after Doctor Who books (as if I need any more), and there are so many of them that just doing a keyword search whenever I log in is easier than going through and adding everything to my wishlist.

After listing my wishlist books onto LT, the actual number of books on my wishlist, +or- a few alternate titles/authors (and I didn't list every book so it may even out), is around 1,182. So the 2096 on BM does include a lot of multiple listings from amazon.
39WildMaggie
572, including books for other members of my household and multiple listings of older titles put out by multiple publishers over the years where the "related edition" function doesn't work well.

#40:
A moochbar is a tool that moves books you find on Amazon to your BM wishlist (or save-for-later or inventory) in two clicks. Or if they're available you can mooch in two clicks.

How nifty!
I just checked, it works on Firefox too.
My wishlist just keeps growing and growing. Every time I browse around LT or have a conversation with someone about books they like, I always end up writing down more titles that I want. No wonder I can never keep myself above 20 points!

after 18 months, I'm up to 223 with only a few duplicates and a few in save-for-later.
I used to wonder how anyone could have hundreds of books on their list and then I found LT (almost as soon as I joined BM.) And now everymonth when the ER books come out, a *few*seem to end up on my wishlist. And there are the recommendations, and the interesting libraries. And there are all those other places to find out about books - NPR, NY Times Book Review, local libraray column in the paper, Fantasticfiction.com - you see what I mean.. Now my problem is how to keep my wishlist under control (or maybe not...)

Currently it's over 1000. I cast my nets wide. :) I love to browse other moochers wishlists and add them to my own. Also I cruise Amazon. I'd never heard of the mooch bar. Interesting....
47RidgewayGirl
1066, now that I've cleaned it up and removed the ones I've already gotten in other editions. Several of mine are specific editions that will probably never come up, I have lots of German language children's books listed and between LT, the NYT Book Review and browsing Amazon, the list is expanding at a steady rate. It keeps me happily mooching.
I've found that opening up my wishlist to a broad range of books has done great things for my reading. I'm reading a better quality of book than I was a year ago and definitely have a much greater knowledge of what's out there, especially in regards to non-American and less widely known authors. There's an awful lot of great stuff out there not featured on the tables at Barnes&Noble!

#47 - you're right - I've found/seen a whole lot more books and authors than before I joined bookmooch and LT. And I pick up books at library sales now that I would have just glanced right over before. Intending, of course to put them on mooch and then putting them in my TBR pile instead.
49Rubbah
The worst is when you angel a book for someone, and then you end up having to wishlist it yourelf because it looks so good:)
50Macophile
Oh- that has happened to me! Good books sneak up on yu when you aren't even looking for them, ;)
51SusieBookworm
MY wishlist has 2907 books on it, the majority of which I will probably never see available, or at least never see for my country. I try to keep duplicates off, but there are some.
52drizzlegirl
I have 171 books on my bookmooch wishlist, but I use another swapping site and my list on there is the max of 500.
I love the moochbar and use it at least once a week. I read such a wide variety of things that usually there is something I can mooch. Hence, why I NEVER have any points..lol

Drizzlegirl, can you post the URL to your Bookmooch inventory on the Pimp your inventory thread? Maybe we can find some books to mooch from you and get you some more points. :-)

Dadena, I would love to, but currently I'm completely mooch out..lol. The next couple of books I'm reading I want to keep at least for a little while, but come Mid-August I should have some inventory. I'll be sure to post it then. Thanks!

49/50: That's my excuse for why mine is so long. Right... Well, I had to try. :)
56TheLeMur
I just deleted a bunch of books from my wishlist today, bringing it down to 401.
Dammit, most of those will never be listed, either. (It's mostly art books and how-to-draw books).

TheLeMur, you never know. I have a beautiful book on architecture courtesy of BookMooch. It pays to list everything that catches your eye.
58Moomin_Mama
I agree with RidgewayGirl. Also, the more obscure, the less likely other people will wishlist it, so if it does come up it's your for the taking :)
59skittles
if a book is wishlisted, then someone is more likely to list it knowing that it will be mooched..... rather than languish in their inventory for years.
60Heather19
59: Very true! There have been more then a few books I hem-hawed about posting, but did because I saw people actually had them wishlisted.
61macsbrains
My wishlist is at about 400 right now, and I can't spend my points fast enough!
Even if I don't intend on keeping a book in the house very long (outdated textbooks, random books that I've encountered over the years and brought home but weren't very interesting) I'll put it up on bookmooch for a little while, just to give people a chance to mooch before I donate it somewhere. You never know what other people are dying to get a hold of! One of the BM charities mooched some of my old junior high and high school workbooks I dug out of the basement which were long over a decade old and covered in contact paper. I'm glad I listed them and someone got to use them! (I never actually did my homework, so they weren't written in).
I've only been a member for about a month in that time people have mooched some strange and obscure stuff from me. I am happy to oblige.

61: Isn't it great?? I love that I find people on BM that actually want old outdated textbooks. I don't care why, it's just awesome they do! I had a 7-year-old geometry textbook, with MEGA-liquid stains (I spilled a Sprite in my backpack...), and it was mooched!
64TheLeMur
#61 & 63-
I'm not that surprised that people want old textbooks, actually.
The textbook I had to buy for figure drawing last semester was ancient (as in 30+ years old) AND out-of-print. As soon as I found a copy on half.com (even though it was kind of beat-up, it still cost less than buying from the school store) I scooped it up. It's crazy what some teachers want you to get.
My school bookstore gives hella good cash for trade-ins on textbooks, so I don't list mine, but you guys can bet I'll try to mooch whatever ones I need this semester.
I always search for English-to-Japanese textbooks and how-to-draw books on bookmooch every few days, because I could always use those.
My save-for-later list is about 50. It's mostly comics I haven't decided if I want or not. Usually I go to Barnes and Noble and read them right off the shelf, then if I like them, I'll wishlist them. I do that with entire series of manga, too.

I'm with RidgewayGirl on this: anything which catches my eye is put on the wishlist. Most will never turn up, but sometimes I get a very pleasant surprise!

My wishlist continues to hover under one hundred, but my save-for-later underwent a horrific bloom last night. I just about doubled it. My save-for-later list has been very handy at getting me to hit the library more often, at least!
I can't remember which of you brought up bookcloseouts.com a few months ago, but it has been a curse. A curse, I tell you! Stupid children's book sale.

#66 I think that might have been me..... Sorry about that! I've been resisting going back there and ordering more books that NEVER seem to come up! I just can't resist $3 (and under!) books!
68chelonianmobile
>67 ealaindraoi: The $X off of $X coupons are the worst, because then I'm just more motivated to spend that much. I don't have room for those books! Or time to read them, which is also a problem, because once I have read them, there are a bunch that will probably wind up on BookMooch or donated to a local charity. But I want to read them first. But I don't have time. But I have an addiction. :P
On the other hand, I got several books off my wishlist and save-for-later, and none of them were over $2.50. Which is about how I value one BM point.

Oh god, sales ANYWHERE kill me so bad. And those "Bargain Priced" sections near the registers at Barnes and Noble. My inner voice always screams "But you already have too many books!"
I don't feel bad spending up to $5 on a book that I know I'm going to list after I read, it's more of the fact that I have too many unread books sitting around.
A lot of the time, I mooch a book, read, then re-list. I sometimes wonder if people think it's odd that I've listed so many books that I previously mooched!

What is it with the compulsion to always buy more books? The bargain priced tables, Friends of the Library sales, and always another book to mooch. Even when I have several at home that I need to read I always am compelled to buy more.
I guess my secret fantasy is to own a library like the one in Beauty and the Beast. It sounds like I am among friends. :-) Now I'm off to check out bookcloseouts.com.

What is it, too, with the compulsion to buy books I already own? :) I tend to find duplicates of books I own to list on BookMooch in the hopes someone else would enjoy them. And I sometimes find books I wouldn't even read just because I think they may be hard to find, and list them on BM. Help! I need more room here! My wishlist is now just over 1300 (or just under if you count the few duplicate alternate titles). Oh a few of those books are in my library thankfully, and some are pending on BookMooch, but the vast majority are not. I must be in a deprived area of the world as far as overseas or older books are concerned!
72RidgewayGirl
At least cataloging my books on LT has stopped the duplicate purchases! And brought startlingly to life the vast number of unread books on my shelves.
I restrict myself strictly to BookMooch and the Friends of the Library book sale, but this does no good, it would take at least four years to read everything I own that I haven't read.

> 70 Not to encourage you or anything, but if you do wind up buying things, there are coupon codes for if you're spending over a certain amount of money. Retailmenot.com has a whole bunch. I'd advise not to sign up for the mailing list. That was my downfall.
This one character in Inkheart has a house almost entirely filled with books, and some of the rooms even have temperature controls. I get a little dreamy just thinking about it.

Oh boy, unread books. I think I have two whole shelves of ones that I haven't touched since I mooched them. I think it's a problem I have-- every time a Wodehouse or Pratchett book I don't own comes up on Bookmooch, I absolutely MUST mooch it!
Then there's always those times I find a book at a book sale or used book store that I know is popular on Bookmooch (A Game of Thrones seems to be a common one, I think I've listed it...three times? It always goes fast) and buy it just so I can list it. Then there's books I LOVE and feel compelled to buy duplicates to just give away. Good to see I'm not the only one who does this!

It's always so tempting to get a duplicate of a book you already own because you KNOW it's a good book. I will often do it if I can get a nicer version, and then I list the one I previously had. And as everyone has mentioned, it is such a pleasure to share books you love with others.
76lahochstetler
I also hit Friends of the Library sales like they're going out of style. Ours seems to be filled with some great books, and on $3/bag day I walk out with ca. 4 bags. Usually I keep the equivalent of one bag, and put the rest up to mooch.
77RidgewayGirl
You are all so very generous. The books I lug home from the Friends of the Library book sale are mine, all mine!
78TheLeMur
Even aaaaafter you read them?
Just kidding. :D
Oh, and I browsed at Barnes and Noble today, so my wishlist is now up to 460. I always take a notebook so I can write down titles that catch my eye.

I buy books at library sales both for me and for BM. It's amazing what you can find sometimes.
81kaykwilts
My library has the Friends of the Library sales twice a year. I almost aways go and always come home with a sack of books. I've found some on my wishlist there and found some I later put on bookmooch. There is also a thrift shop I like to frequent once a week. It's run by a local Baptist church and they only charge 25 cents for paperbacks and 50 cents for hardbacks. They have one volunteer who puts out the books and he only works on Wednesdays so that is the day I go. He knows what I like and sometimes he'll hold books back for me. The Salvation Army and Goodwill also have books but their books are more expensive and also they don't have as good a selection. Goodwill will think nothing of slapping $4.00 on a used book that looks beat up.
82Trialia
Mine's at 299 right now, but I picked a couple up at a book sale today that I'll be taking off it later. :)

I have now finally got my wishlist on LibraryThing as well. On BookMooch it's 920 books now, that's 158 bigger than 3 months ago (see #12). On LT it's 731, and that's "real" size, the version without doubles.

Mine's over a thousand more on the BM wishlist because of multiple amazon listings. I have some multiple editions on LT, but not that many.

TheLeMur: I have added artbooks to my wishlist AND they appeared on Bookmooch, so it's possible to get them :) However, the artbooks and how-to-draw books I currently have I still want to keep for a while :) (though I do have two manga in my inventory, Avatar #1 and Kirakirakaoru #11)
I also looked through your wishlist and http://bookmooch.com/detail/0977642496 is an interesting title XD My friend collects those "How to draw manga" books as well (she's not on BM) so I'll notify her of this title.

Yeah, my BM wishlist is a lot longer then my LT wishlist because of multiple editions. I don't trust the "related editions" feature, so any edition I can find, I wishlist.
Also, I have a few on my BM wishlist that are for friends, so I don't put them on my LT wishlist.
My wishlist is still really small though, compared to some other people here *won't name names*. lol

My wishlist is only 317 books. I will add some books next month.

I just cleaned mine up, deleting some books I've gotten recently elsewhere, and it's 477 books long now.

I've just written a post about Bookmooch and How to use it.

I passed the 1200 mark last week. Many, many are various editions of a book, or german language children's books, so the real total is probably around 600. Enough to keep me out of points and shelf space.

I'm at 1083. It has just taken on a life of it's own at this point.

~20 + ~20 in the saved for later one. Just the ones that I am actively monitoring for...

Mine's going down, hooray! 2052 on BookMooch but actually less than 1100 (only a few duplicates on LT). That tells you there are a lot of the same item wishlisted on BookMooch / amazon... (Oh, and didn't list all wishlist items on LT but it all evens out.)

My wishlist just went down tonight by two. A bookclub I joined just for the inital offering of the free books ran another special tonight...60% off plus free shipping. How is anyone supposed to ignore an offer like that?
I seem to have a much smaller wishlist than a lot of people. It's only about 90 books, but I also seem to mooch lots of books that weren't already on my wishlist.

around 180-ish...

Woohoo, wishlist is down to 1100 (on LT; includes a few duplicates for cover purposes, but still, yay!) Hopefully I can get it to under 1000 soon.

Mine is about 600-ish, and growing by the day.
90% children's books though and the rest is all Catholicism related texts.

mine is 1700+ and I just looked at my post on Dec 9th and it was around 1000. So, that means I have added about 700 books to my list in the past 3 months. Damn you LibraryThing!!! ;)
115Mareofthesea
Well I was getting mine down, then last night while BM was down, I found another 40-some books to add while surfing Chapters.com. I think my total's somewhere in the 580 books range. I'm still a novice compared to some :)

Today it's 1364. A lot of them are duplicates or books for the kids, but I've found that with a large wishlist, there is usually something to mooch. And by putting a title there I remember it and can grab it if I find it elsewhere. I've managed to get a fair number of out-of-print and just released hardcovers, so don't not put something on your list because you don't think it will ever be offered.
I've also mooched a few books from my wishlist, and then when they've arrived wondered what I had been thinking. Happily, usually I discover that the people who designed the covers and wrote the blurb knew much less about the book than the LTers who recommended it in the first place. It can help to not be able to look at the book before it belongs to you.

500+. A lot are duplicates/related editions, just to hedge my bets. But so few are ever available that I feel no guilt.

>117 RidgewayGirl: That is so very true. I mooch books mostly for myself, but sometimes for my SO. One day recently a book came in that was entirely unfamiliar to me, (so I thought it was for him.) It wasn't, and when I read it it became one of my favorite books I've read in a while. I still have NO IDEA how it even got on my list.
I received two this week alone that I know I put on my wishlist for a reason, though what that reason was, I haven't the slightest.

My wishlist is getting shorter, only 230 books and most of those are my kids'. My TBR pile is getting overwhelming, so I've been moving all but my top choices to the Save For Later list. If I had more room for books, and more time for reading, my wishlist would be VERY long.
122DaynaRT
280 on my wishlist, but that includes a lot of related editions, plus books my husband and son are wishing for.
125IreneF
Mine is about 1450, including related editions. I hardly ever get hits either. Recently I've had some luck with keyword searches.
I really like postcard books and I never see them on BM.

I'm at 927 today. I very, very rarely get hits these days.
No worries though. In fact, I frequently check these wishlist titles against inter-library loans. 'Not enough room for all the books I do have. 'No sense owning when you can borrow...

I have 326 books on my BM wishlist, though a lot of duplicates (I added many different editions).
I've decided today I'm going to add them to my wishlist collection on LT!

My wishlist hovers around 1800, although it's currently a few books below this level now. I still get hits, at about the same rate as my PBS wishlist (which is smaller because rules). I still get hits, although at a slightly slower pace. I do check my wishlist a few time a day, from sheer force of habit, and that pays off. I'm waiting for three books currently, having just received one on Saturday.
I'm moving next week and will not be mooching for two years. I'd like to wipe out my TBR!

I just finished adding all my wishlisted books to Librarything, I have 454... Though I might delete some. And there are quite a few books on there I just want to read (and probably not keep).
130ZoeyEve
My friends on BM have wishlists of over 2000 each; both of them are also on PBS with 200 on the wishlist and the remainder on the reminder list.
BM = 1 Book every 3 to 4 Months
PBS = 1 Book every 2-3 weeks
These are mostly Non Fiction WW2, Holocaust, and Korean war books; interesting to see where these get traded!
