Hi, I'm new to the group. For some reason I'm reading a lot of dystopia lately. I just finished, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley & loved it. One of the greatest things about the book is the perfect organization of the society. I know that it's horrifying but when the Controller and John argue about whether or not the current state of society is right or wrong it's kinda hard to argue with the Controller's logic.

The whole idea of using genetic engineering and psychological conditioning to create a "controlled & stable" society is frightening but the lure of no crime, no fear, long-lasting youth & certainty of a future is pretty strong, too.

Of course, that's only if you are on one of the upper classes :-) I would miss books, freedom of thought, expression and spirituality. But would I miss it if I never knew them in the first place?

Argh! The book is absolutely brilliant.

Aldous Huxley is a brilliant man. I first read Brave New World my freshman year of college and immediately fell in love with the book and with Dystopian literature.

I love the idea of a perfect society that is completely free of corruption. In the opening chapters, the children are seen playing "sex games" so to speak, and that fascinated me further. Huxley created this world were drugs were replaced by a simple "feel good pill" (soma) and being intimate with more than one person was the norm.

By far one of the best dystopian novels out there.

I really enjoyed the book. I think if I lived in that world I would flee to the Savage Reservation with all my illegal books, though.

What other books would you suggest that are similar to Brave New World?
