WE HAVE REACHED OUR GOAL!!!!

Below is the current list of members that have identified a ROOT goal for 2018 and how many books they read by the end of December.
Any members who have yet to record a ROOT, have been removed to a separate list until they start. The ticker totals have been adjusted accordingly.

The percentage is calculated and a star awarded for those on target to reach their goals. More stars for farther toward their goal.

If anyone's number is incorrect, please let me know and I will make the necessary adjustments.
So go out there and dig those ROOTs.

4th for December, 75/75

I have one more ROOT, a YA that I'm currently reading and I'll probably finish today. After that, I want to get to a couple of door-stoppers because I'm still 2 short on a goal of 15 in the Big Fat Book challenge. One of these door-stoppers is definitely not a ROOT (Olivia Manning's Fortunes of War: The Balkan Trilogy, which I half-finished for the Virago Modern Classic group's October author-read and that I want to complete). For another door-stopper, I think I'll probably get to some Library of America (almost certainly a ROOT), but I'll wait and see.

Anyway, I'VE DONE IT!

Just got my ticker set up. Thanks, Cheli!

In the 100 books in 2018 challenge I've so far hit 144 (and I expect to add at least a couple more by New Year's). My current ROOTing for 2018 is 77/75 (and I expect to add one more by New Year's). So I decided this year to up my ROOTing goal to 100 and try not to buy as many new books.

This "not buying so many" may be easier than it seems, because I'm currently engaged in a massive project to catalog everything I've got in numbered boxes and tagged by number on my LT catalog. I've been doing this for years and already had a couple thousand boxed, but this will clean up my floors and tables and everywhere else and probably bring my boxed total to over 3K. Since I'll better know what I currently have, I might really be more inclined to dig into ROOTS.

As usual, to qualify, the book must have been owned by the end of 2018. Kindle does not count (but I can use Kindle for convenience of reading a book that I already have in treeware).

I'm going to finish the year on 28 of 40 for the year. A little disappointing but happy to have cleared more shelf space. Looking forward to playing again in 2019.

Hope everyone's having a safe and happy holiday season.

You're right, of course, given various unforeseen events I'm pleased to have achieved 49. Who knows what next year will bring, but an aim does focus the mind.

Happy New Year's reading!

Finishing the year with 32 ROOTs toppled - two more than I was aiming for and definitely more than I expected. Some of my favourite books of the year have been from the depths of my shelves, so thank you for finally persuading me to actually read them! :D Happy New Year everyone!

fuzzi, it was Theo: A Sprightly Love Story by Frances Hodgson Burnett.
Just a wee book but so good as are all of Burnett's. It was my 56th ROOT of the year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, ONE AND ALL!

I read 7 more ROOTs in December that should be added in to the totals. Sorry for being late with this info. I have been away from Internet access for almost two weeks.

I read two books in December. One of them I have had checked out from the library for 6 years. It was a good book, it just took me some sustained time to get into it.

1. Noble Radiance by Donna Leon
2. South Riding: An English Landscape by Winifred Holtby

December is always a good listening month as I spend a long time in the car traveling for the Christmas break. I listened to 5 books this month. I decided to catch up on the Flavia de Luc mysteries so they are the majority of books for this month. I finished the last of the Septimus Heap books. One series done and now ready to start another.

1. Fyre by Angie Sage. Book 7 in the Septimus Heap series
2. West With the Night by Beryl Markham
3. Speaking From Among the Bones by Alan Bradley
4. Dead in Their Vaulted Arches by Alan Bradley
5. As Chimney Sweepers Come to Dust by Alan Bradley

All of them made the miles much easier to tolerate.

Woohoo! Congratulations all, whether you reached your goal, vastly exceeded it, or just did your best and had a good time along the way. And thank you Cheli for hosting, that was so much fun. :) Happy New Year, and happy reading for 2019!
