Rosemary Wells & Jim LaMarche -April 3 Wednesday, April 3 @ 3:00 (presentation at 3:30) Rosemary Wells & Jim LaMarche have teamed up to create an unforgettable story for the middle grades (ages 8 & up), Ivy Takes Care. Brokenhearted when her best friend departs for the summer, Ivy spends her own summer caring for animals in the mid-century Southwest, sharing her season of discovery with a stubborn pony, a mischievous puppy and a scarred racehorse.
Wells continues to bring us new books two at once. In the spirit of Max & Ruby, Yoko and Noisy Nora, we meet Sophie in Time-Out for Sophie.
Sophie means to be a good little mouse, but she just can't resist testing the limits with her patient parents and grandmother.
Eat supper? More fun to throw it on the floor. Fold the laundry? More fun to knock over the pile. Read with Grandma? More fun to steal her glasses. And then it's time out for Sophie!
Sophie's adorable antics will strike a chord with children and parents alike. (Picture book for ages 2 & up.)
Born in in New York City, Rosemary Wells grew up in a house filledwith "books, dogs, and nineteenth-century music." After a brief tenure at the Museum School in Boston, she married and began a career as a book designer, then published her own first picture book in 1968. From the start, Rosemary Wells’s work has been recognized for its strong sense of humor and realism and its gently rebellious approach to childhood. Her books have received numerous honors, including a New York Times Book Review Best Illustrated Book of the Year and a Publisher's Weekly Best Book of the Year award for My Very First Mother Goose.
As a child, Jim LaMarche thought he might grow up to be a magician...or a down-hill ski racer...or Davy Crockett. We are all the richer because he decided to become an author & illustrator. Some of our favorites are Albert by Donna Jo Napoli & winner of the Hicklebee's book of the Year Award, The Rainbabies by Laura Melmed, A Story for Bear by Dennis Haseley and The Raft by Jim Lamarche. He lives in Santa Cruz with his family.
