So, I only just happened on this challlenge but I've still got 6 months of the year left and lots of reading to do! As I'm quite a few books into the year's reading matter, my categories this year have been defined by what I've read already (otherwise there'll be no chance!)

I've crossed out the books I've read already and any in bold are in more than one category. Underlined books are the ones that are still pending! Anything marked with a star is 'In Progress'.

Here are this year's categories ('stickies' are the one's I'm going to have every year):

1. Fantasy/Sci-Fi
2. Young Adult/Children's
3. Non-Fiction - 'Sticky' category -5/8
4. Mixed Bag: A Home for the Category-less
5. Japan - 4/8
6. Cyberpunk/Industrial/Dystopia/Steampunk
7. 1001 Books List - 'Sticky' category
8. Classic Literature - 'Sticky' category - 7/8

Progress so far ........
56 / 64
(87.5%)

Welcome! What a great challenge you've created. I'm particularly enamored of your Cyberpunk/Industrial/ Dystopia category - how wonderful. --Nancy

Thanks Nancy, I didn't really know what to call that category!

Hello, if you count 8 books in two categories (which I personally think is a sign of very efficient reading), then you're reading 56 books in the year, not 64. So you can change your counter and your percentage completed will instantly increase. It's almost like getting a raise! Have fun with your challenge.

Books That Aren't In Any Category (but I read them anyway!)

Bleak House is the killer here. As long as a the Nile, and more characters than an Indian wedding. I've started it a couple of times, but the fog gets to me. One day, though.

I'm determined to finish it but I have a feeling it will roll over to next year ... unless it snows in the UK at Christmas ... then I might feel Dickensian! It's become a matter of honour! I need a really long flight or train journey - usual strategy when dealing with a problem book is to make it the only one in my bag!

That's it for 2008, I think (unless someone else does the cooking for tonight that is ... husband lying in bed with self-induced headache so highly unlikely!). I didn't quite make it but I only picked up on this half-way through the year so my early reading was less Challenge-efficient but equally satisfying.

I've loved doing this and it's certainly made me more conscious of keeping breadth in my reading and not just sitting on the 'easy on the mind' books. Looking forward to the 999 Challenge ....

Happy New Year to one and all and may 2009 bring you all good things!
