Whoo Hoo! After a year away, I am soooo excited to be getting back to my ROOTS in 2015! My goal of 50 will put a nice little dent in my library of approx 300 books. There's a lot of work to do and no time to doddle so just wishing good luck to fellow ROOTers!

Hi! Good luck with your challenge this year! Looks like you're doing well so far!
Also, >14 Carmenere: loved that one!!

Jan. 23, 2015, 3:49 pm

>21 avanders: Thanks! So true!

>22 connie53: Yup, although I hate to admit it in mixed (non reader) company.

I hate that I'm reading a non root book at the moment but I'm obligated for my neighborhood book swap, ugh! At least I'm enjoying it and it's moving fairly quickly, The Invention of Wings

24connie53
Jan. 24, 2015, 4:20 pm

>23 Carmenere:. Why would you hate reading a non root? There is plenty of time for those and a neighbourhood book swap is a kind of a challenge too, I guess.

25Carmenere
Feb. 8, 2015, 6:05 am

>24 connie53: Perhaps "hate" was too strong a word, Connie. That non root The Invention of Wings turned out to be an excellent book. It's just seeing those shelves make room for more books is what's so appealing to me :0}

Finished The Europeans a relatively new ROOT purchased at a library booksale on 12-6-14 specifically for Mark's AACII challenge. It wiggled me out of Portrait of a Lady which is wayyyy to humungous to read at the time.

Keep ROOTing!

28Carmenere
Feb. 13, 2015, 7:13 am

Yes! ROOTing away, Dejah! I chalked up #5 Tolstoy and the Purple Chair purchased online at a B & N sale in 12-2013.

I'm up to my 11th booked pluck this year. Since #5 Tolstoy, I've finished, A Clash of Kings, The Painted Veil, The Little Stranger,
Brideshead Revisited, Rock Springs and The City & The City.

The chipping away of Mount TBR continues.

>33 Tess_W: Hi Tess! Thanks for stopping in, I'd do better if library books would stop calling out to me.

>34 avanders: Greetings avanders! Thanks for your kind words.

Here's a great book I took off my bookshelf for Mark's AACII Challenge, The Round House. What a fabulous book! And the young protagonist, Joe, is so likeable you'll want to find out how he works through is situation. I highly recommend it.

Hi avanders, thanks for stopping in. Sorry, it took me so long to respond. I sort of forgot about this thread. I thought The Round House was a really good story. I hope you think so too when you get around to it.

-----

I was disheartened to learn that my ROOTS thus far totaled 32% so I adjusted my goal from 50 books to 40.
Completely do-able.

>37 Carmenere: no worries! I go in spurts myself, and we're all on and off and focusing on reading ;)

Good plan to simply re-adjust! RL (real life) often takes us by surprise... :)

Jul. 25, 2015, 3:22 pm

Well, I can not believe it took me most of July to read my 21st root! Fall On Your Knees was a good book that could have been a great book had an editor did what editors do best, edit!

Oh my goodness! Where has the time gone?! Spent reading library books by the look of my ROOTS numbers.

Oh well, I've just finished two of my own The Martian and The Girl on the Train. Both were excellent reads but I believe I just won't reach my ROOTS goal this year.

I suppose, it's a good reason to plan on ROOTS 2016!

43connie53
Nov. 30, 2015, 4:04 pm

Yes, you do that! We love to have a big group for 2016.

And I'll be right there with you in the 2016 group! Funny how all those books keep following me home...

>43 connie53: Great, I'll look forward to seeing you in the new year, Connie!

>44 rabbitprincess: Yeah! I just can't wait to get started and set a more reasonable goal for myself. It does seem like more books take up residence at my house than leave. I guess they're happy here.

>42 Carmenere: I loved The Martian! :) And The Girl on the Train is on the shelves and eagerly awaiting my read... ;)
Re the ROOTs, it happens!

>45 Carmenere: I also try to set "more reasonable goals" for myself ;) RL seems to get in the way of our best laid plans.... :)

Dez. 1, 2015, 2:09 pm

>46 avanders: LOL as I was pulling out my planned reads for next year, I decided to focus on 12 of my favorite authors which amounts to 67 books of which I own. Then I said, oh, I want to read that one too and that one, etc, etc. Now, I've put aside 89 books!!!! Oh my!

Dez. 3, 2015, 8:03 am

Update! I'm now up to 90 books on my 2016 ROOTS list! Help! Oh, I'm clearing off my nicely organized bookshelf to put my 2016 reads. Right now they're all over the basement floor and I know the hubsters will go nuts :0}
